Fantastic chefs quality knives!
For some time I wanted some really good chefs quality knives. After doing quite a bit of research and holding several different knives in upscale stores, I settled on the Wusthof Ikon Creme - and I'm very glad I did. These knives are super sharp, well balanced, and great looking. There are three different handles available in the Wusthof Ikon knives, and I chose the Creme as a personal preference. My advice is to hold several top quality knives like these in your hand. You will notice the difference in quality in different kinds of Wusthof, Henckels, and other top name knives. You can then decide for yourself. These knives are fantastic and will be used in my kitchen for a very long time.

Wonderful knives!
After using an el cheapo stamped steel Henckels knife set for over 15 years, I decided to treat myself to something new and better. After much research, I decided to get this knife set, the Wusthof Classic Ikon 8 pc set. I am extremely pleased with them. The knives have very good balance, are beautifully finished, and are of course extremely sharp. The ergonomic handle of the Classic Ikon fits my (relatively small) hand much better than my old Henckels as well as the lower-priced Wusthof Classic line I tried at a W-S store. The rounded edges of the handle looks more modern and feels more comfortable to hold than the older Classic line. I am using the "proper" pinch grip, where the index finger and thumb are squeezing the blade and the other three fingers are wrapped around the handle. The handles also look so classy sticking out of the knife block where you can see the metal "butt" of the handles with the engraved Wusthof logo. Equally important, the "bolster" of the Ikon does not...

Work of art ..
Used to be that knives are just something you find in the kitchen and toss back into the drawer when you're done. These knives are so beautiful that my wife and I handle them with complete care. It's a pleasure to slice anything that we actually look forward to it. The weight is really good and the balance fantastic! Now we treat it like the high priced item that it is! Carefully washing them and drying with a paper towel before putting it back in the block. I'm confident with the proper care, these will last forever!Originally was purchasing the Henckels Four Star 2. Due to unforseen events, somehow the purchase kept either getting lost or returned to Amazon. Because of this, I did some more research and discovered that the Wusthof is far better designed than the Henckels with a separate piece of counter-weight. The Wusthoff is really forged from one piece then the handles are added on.. thus better handling. So my advice, if it is within budget, get these!

Product Description

The Classic Ikon 8-piece block set includes 3-1/2-inch parer, 4-1/2-inch utility, 6-inch sandwich knife, 8-inch bread knife, 8-inch cooks knife, 10-inch steel, kitchen shears and a 17 slot storage block, Wusthof Classic Ikon is a culmination of all the best features of each of the Wusthof knife lines. The combined riveted handle design is combined with a contoured shape to add comfort and control. The Classic Ikon adds a rear bolster that acts as a counter balance when using the knife. This second bolster adds significant blade control. Classic Ikon has a unique forward bolster as well. The forward partial bolster is designed so you can sharpen the complete length of the blade. This bolster is also curvered inwards to allow your fingers greater control while holding the knife by the blade. Located in The Cutlery Capital of the World, Solingen Germany, the Wusthof factory history goes back as far as 1814 when the company was listed with the Duchy of Berg. To this day, the company remains family owned. Throughout it’s history, Wusthof has focused almost solely on the manufacturing of forged knives for the professional chef and home cooking enthusiast. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet still be able to be maintained in your home kitchen with out the need to be sent away for maintenance. Our unique compound angle is not seen in many knives. This angle tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge while it also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength as well as flexibility. Wuestof is the best
The pieces I use the most in this set is the scissors, cook's knife, paring, bread and sharpening steel. I can do without the other ones but I like the extra slots to add to my collection and it's more expensive to collect them singly.I used to think that all knives are created equal. Since I love cooking shows and Top Chef, I always wanted to chop as fast as they do. I used to watch Fu Pei-mei Chinese cooking shows when I was a little girl and she said that you can do it by curling your fingers in so the knife touches your knuckle. I tried and tried and for fear of seing my bare white knuckles, I just couldn't do it. Then after I came here, American chefs chop differently using a rocking motion. I bought from Costco a set of Henckles International knives what I thought was high quality knives... afterall, they were a German brand Henckles. When I first got them, I always had mysterious cuts on my other fingers but I thought it must be me. Then I tried to imitate...

35 years and they're finally showing wear
I've been using these knives at home since I was a child. My parents received their set as a wedding gift 35 years ago. For the most part the knives are just now starting to show signs of wear (mostly from poor care). With a professional sharpening every few years and hand washing these knives will last a lifetime.

Truly amazing
Expensive? Yes! Worth? Definitely! The set is amazingly good. I've tested drive the knifes against my existing knifes: there is a grand canyon of difference.PS: The knife is great, but it is not sold by Amazon, but be Macy's. They do not offer the fast delivery options when buying through Amazon, and dealing with them is a pain in the neck. Would avoid Macy's at all costs. Their service is not even close to Amazon's (the 5 stars are for the knife. Macy's get a 0)

Product Description

The Classic cutlery line bears all the traits that W?sthof knives are known for: impeccable construction, incredible sharpness, and long-lasting durability. Each Classic knife is precision-forged--blade, bolster, and tang--from a single piece of high-carbon, stain-resistant steel. The blade is tested by lasers and honed by hand, with computer-controlled front-to-back tapering, grinding, and polishing. A visible full tang--the bladeÆs shaft runs the entire length of the handle--ensures excellent balance and strength. Classic handles are molded from a durable black synthetic called Hostaform-C with traditional triple riveting. The knives promise a lifetime of hard-working companionship in the kitchen. This W?sthof Classic 8 piece block set is a great way to jumpstart your cutlery collection or begin overhauling your old set of knives. Designed to meet the most popular cutting demands, the set includes an 8" Cooks knife for chopping, and a 3-1/2-inch paring knife for coring, trimming, and peeling, 4.5" Utility knife for spreading and slicing. This sets also includes a 8" bread knife, 6" sandwich knife, kitchen shears. Wusthof also includes a 9-inch sharpening steel and an attractive oak block with a total of 17 slots so you can add specialty knives or your old favorites. Classic knives, though safe in the dishwasher, should be washed by hand for best results Top to learn more

This eight-piece set completes the cutlery needs for the average kitchen but is intended to be a starter set for chefs planning on acquiring some additional specialty knives. Providing excellent control for average-sized hands, the 8-inch cook’s knife performs the majority of the chopping and mincing tasks in the kitchen. The 6-inch sandwich knife is a staple for halving a sandwich or trimming meat while the 8-inch serrated bread knife cuts through a crusty loaf with ease. The 4-1/2-inch utility knife will become a well-loved tool for smaller cutting tasks, such as slicing garlic or fruit. Finally, the 3-1/2-inch paring knife is perfect for peeling apples or hulling strawberries. A 9-inch sharpening steel keeps knife edges sharp and a pair of kitchen shears cuts herbs, poultry, or packaging. The 17-slot oak block holds all knives with room to spare for six steak knives and five other knives.

Part of Wüsthof’s popular Classic line of cutlery, these knives have a very traditional design. Blades are hand-forged from a single piece of high-carbon steel so they retain their sharp edges longer and are easier to resharpen, plus they include a stain-resistant alloy. Blades are also ground and polished by computer to ensure perfect tapering from tip to bolster. A signature feature of Wusthof knives, the weighted bolster gives these knives the perfect heft. For balance, full tangs extend through the synthetic handles and are triple-riveted for strength. --Cristina Vaamonde

Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-Piece Knife Set with Block Creme

After doing quite a bit of research and holding several different knives in upscale stores, I settled on the Wusthof Ikon Creme – and I’m very glad I did. There are three different handles available in the Wusthof Ikon knives, and I chose the Creme as a personal preference. After much research, I decided to get this knife set, the Wusthof Classic Ikon 8 pc set. The ergonomic handle of the Classic Ikon fits my (relatively small) hand much better than my old Henckels as well as the lower-priced Wusthof Classic line I tried at a W-S store. Equally important, the “bolster” of the Ikon does not extend all the way to the cutting edge like on the lower-priced Classic, making the Ikon easier to sharpen and gives it a little more cutting edge. The handles also look so classy sticking out of the knife block where you can see the metal “butt” of the handles with the engraved Wusthof logo. I also later decided to get a 9 slot knife block (purchased separately) since the included 17 slot block was a little too much for just the 6 pieces that I am using. These benefits more than justifies the extra cost of the Classic Ikon over the Classic. After using an el cheapo stamped steel Henckels knife set for over 15 years, I decided to treat myself to something new and better. Most of the time I use the chef’s and bread knives and seldom use the paring and utility knives.
