Stellar image quality in small package
Sigma DP series are unique because it is the first compact camera that utilize a large sensor size equivalent to Digital SLR camera. It is also unique because it use Foveon sensor instead of more popular CMOS / CCD sensor. So far, only Sigma uses this type of sensor. Sigma uses it on compact DP series (DP1, DP2) and DSLR like SD series (SD10, SD 14, and upcoming SD15).Foveon sensor has different characteristic than regular sensor, which I will discuss a bit on image quality section. So, what is new about DP2s? Sigma DP2s is an update of DP2, so it has many similarities like the image sensor, shape etc. The main improvement is in the processing speed. DP2s use TRUE II engine which Sigma claims to be faster than TRUE I which is employed in DP1.Main Specs- 14 MP Foveon sensor- 24.2 mm f/2.8 lens equivalent to 41mm in 35mm camera.- True II processor- 2.5' LCD screen, 230k resolution- ISO 100-800 expandable to 3200...

Great Camera
I recently bought the Sigma DP2S along with a normal point and shoot zoom camera, the Panasonic DMC-ZS7. I was going to wait for the Sigma SD 15, which has not been released as of the date of this review, but I wanted to try out the Foveon sensor. I have considered replacing my entire Canon system with Sigma's SD 15 based on the image quality I have seen and comments by some pros. While waiting for the SD 15 to become available, I decided to try out the DP2S. I figure I'll return it after trying it out. Well, that was the plan. After having played with it for a few days, I'm at the point of not being able to return it. It's a wonderful camera. Image quality is terrific, better than even some of my Canon's L lenses. No zoom. No interchangeable lenses. Expensive camera. But great photos. And that's the bottom line why I get a good camera. Not only am I increasingly likely to keep it, but I still also anticipate getting the SD 15 when it's out. The SD 15 is a full SLR with a variety of...

The DP2S may become your most frequently used camera
So much research and reviews were dedicated to the pros and cons of the X3F. For the skeptics, let me say those claims on superior dynamic range and color accuracy are all true. The tradeoff on occasional inconvenience caused by the lack of a zoom lens for better image quality produced is well worth it. So what is missing? For now, the DP2S still feels more like an artist tool. This pocket size camera will need to add more features such as face detection in its next upgrade before winning over the crowd. Nonetheless, those who have been holding off a purchase, waiting for more interchangeable/mirror-less models to choose from may want to think about why Sigma and Leica are the only two brands so far that offer compact models with APS-C size sensor and a fixed focal length lens. After owning one, I firmly believe this is the right combination to go forward with.

Camera of my dreams.
I find I have a hard time describing this camera to some friends. If they know enough about cameras/photography I will delve into all the details about why it is so different and why I love it so much. But for those friends who are less knowledgeable I just tell it to them straight - "no it can't zoom, yes it's only 4.6MP, yes I paid $650 for it and it's worth every penny. It takes beautiful photos." I spent some quality time with this camera on a recent trip to Victoria, BC and here are my pros and cons:PROS1. Amazing image quality (pixel-perfect sharp and colors are especially stunning. Always shoot in RAW)2. Small (likely to fit in any coat pocket)CONS1. Sometimes you will miss candid opportunities because autofocus and shot to shot times are not super snappy. If you tend to be a "capture-the-moment-trigger-happy photographer, this will probably get on your nerves. If you are more of a composition photographer, it likely won't.2...

Meanest little camera you'll ever use
There's a ton of technical reviews of the camera, and I can't add anything more to that discussion. I 100% agree with them, noisy at high isos, slow, etc. So let me give you my "every person review;" for background the Sigma DP2 has become my everyday camera, I'm taking about 5 pics a day; things I see that's interesting, or just to document something happening e.g. bad drivers. I've logged well over 200 shots on this camera, since I also go to events and pretend to be a photographer in my spare time. So I feel comfortable, about offering my review after only owning it for 2 weeks. This camera, is the meanest, most abusive, slowest, frustrating and confusing camera you'll ever use; 4 out of 10 times, you have no idea what it's focusing on. Sometimes, it treats the the shutter button press as a suggestion not a command. Also when you ignore it, sometimes it just crashes. However, it will take some of the best pictures you'll ever see. Some how the colors pop, look...

sigma dp2
this is not an easy camera to use. I use a 5d and take a lot of photos. I wanted a go everywhere camera. The auto focus is slow - the manual focus is not so great because the lcd is not so great. Maybe the viewfinder will help. I'll buy one soon because despite the faults this camera is worth keeping.Dont buy this if you want to photograph people - the auto focus is too slow. There is just something about the photos this camera can take. When the focus is bang on its great. But its more than that. These pictures don't look like photos taken with other digital cameras.I put them into photoshop and need to do nearly nothing to them - especially the B&W.Use this camera if you can use an slr. Use this camera if you have patience. Don't use this camera if you want a quick auto focus. If you can be patient and if you can put up with slow(ish) write times you will like this. If you are used to an slr and want a walk aroud , you will...

A brilliant, misunderstood little camera
I've had the Sigma DP2x for several months now and feel that I've used it enough to give some feedback on the camera. First things first, this is not meant to be a point and shoot camera. It looks like a point and shoot camera, it's about the same size as a point and shoot camera, and it even has the telescoping lens design found in many point and shoot cameras. But it is not a consumer point and shoot camera. It does not come with many features found in today's consumer P&S -- no geotagging, no HDR, no face detection, no pano-stitching, no wireless printing, not even any scene modes. Autofocus is not particularly slow, much faster and more accurate than my original DP2, but it's no DSLR. Low-light color performance is very poor -- ISO 800 and up may show noticeable color banding depending on the scene. Though the lens appears to be like any other P&S, it is a prime lens that does not zoom. If you are interested in this camera to chase your kids around at birthday parties, or for...

both negative side and positive side
negative first:Though this camera is manufactured in a metal (suspected steel sheet but some say it is aluminum) casing, it still have a "toy feel" from those plastic parts and buttons, and especially inside battery compartment, do not know if sigma can improve it in future.the operation of camera, is not similar with any of the existing ones i have touched so far, but since it only have the very basic settings, it will not take long to get use of it.power one takes some time, not so long but worse than expected.positive side is that;the image quality is distinct, especially when taken those images with a lot of details, that is probably because of the sensor itself. When shotting at tree leaves, non of my other cameras had give a image that is as crisp as this one with a lot of details, may be there is artificial digital filter programs that enhance the edge but at the cost of details. this quality is achieved even when...

Are you kidding me ?
Horrible low light performance. Now that I got this out of the way, let me start by saying that I really wanted to like this well built, quality small and rather affordable camera so that I didn't have to get the Fuji x100 - which I ended up getting. Daytime pics are beautiful and I couldnt notice a difference from my canon 60d sigma 17-50 2.8 setup. Quick autofocus, though not for running objects, nice colors, though I didn't notice any foveon spectacular ones, and a nice experience. I didn't mind the menu at all and I found the manual focus pretty good.Shooting in low light...a whole different experience. Half the time, yes, half the time you will be getting green artifacts which are simply not removable. Not with sigma, adobe or any software. Iso noise is acceptable though cannot be compared to my dslr, unlike the fuji x100. Even the autofocus was fine. But I am surprised such cameras make it in production. The whole point, to me, of owning a compact is to...
