Nothing short of a masterpiece.
As someone who is a huge fan of film(many would say im a film snob). I have seen all the classics, I see all the indie films, all the blockbusters, and foreign films. Movies are my passion. So if you told me, that a Muppet movie would end up being my movie of the year, I simply would not believe it. But this film simply works. Its a perfect movie, and their are very few movies i can say that about. Do i think its one of the best movies of all time? No, but it set out to do be a happy, fun and simple movie, and it did it succeeded one hundred percent. Never have i walked out of a movie, feeling so utterly happy about it. I saw this with my girlfriend and she agreed, it just makes you feel happy. The songs are great, the writing is great, the pacing is perfect, it never ceased to entertain me. This is a must see.

Well done Segel...well done!
At the end of the day, the underlying subject of this movie is: "We are The Muppets: If modern society decides we are no longer funny and popular, we're ok with that. We are just here to entertain for those who will appreciate."I'm not a professional critic, so there's no need for me to bore everyone with an over-analyzed, granular review. What I can say is I (like many folks) have been a die hard Muppet fan since I was a kid in the early 80's. Jim Henson was a genius and the world became a slightly darker place when we lost him. I lost touch with The Muppets over the years as they tried to re-envision themselves and relate to a new generation. Though still popular, it wasn't the same to me. This new film is the closest thing that I have seen in attempting to return to their truly zany days when you had Henson, Oz, Hunt, and Nelson leading the charge.Jason Segel (who co-wrote the screenplay) didn't have to do his research. It's obvious he has been a fan...

It took me down memory lane...
On Saturday (11/19), my son and I attended an advance screening of the new movie "The Muppets". From the moment I received the invitation, I started going back in time to when my entire family would gather in the family room to watch The Muppets on TV.I remember the show format being similar to "Laugh In" and 'Sonny and Cher" (if you are old enough to remember back that far). I was in love with Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog and Fozzie's silly jokes cracked me up. Everyone was rooting for Gonzo to finally do one of his hair brained stunts right and the dancing chickens were the hit of the evening. And each show was always hosted by one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. When I told my son that I was a few years older that he is now when the show first came on TV, he said "Dang! The Muppets are that old?" Don't you just love kids...The movie "The Muppets" starts out back in the day when the TV show was still a major hit. A little boy (well, more puppet than...

Great fun, great laughs, and great muppets
I've only seen this movie on a recorded-off-TV format, but this is probably one of the funniest movies you can see (at least with Kermit the Frog in the starring role), and certainly the best Muppet movie, as far as I'm concerned. The movie begins with Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo in a balloon, floating high above the city, reading the credits as they roll. ("Kermit? What does B.S.C. stand for?" "I dunno..." and "Nobody really reads these do they?" "Well sure they do. They all have families.")Once the credits finish, the balloon plummets to the street, where the trio introduce the movie with a large song-and-dance number amidst a chaotic street scene, complete with a robbery on set!The rest of the movie is loads of laughs as Kermit and his friends travel to England for their newspaper to interview Lady Holiday (Diana Rigg). Their Muppet entourage grows when the three book their stay at the Happiness Hotel, a run-down England hotel occupied...

everything you'd ever want in a Muppet movie
"The Great Muppet Caper" is not the definative Muppet film (check out "The Muppet Movie" [1979] for that distinction) but it is a very solid outing from Kermit and the gang. The celebrity performances and cameos (even Jim Henson, Muppet creator, shows up) are well-done, with just enough campiness to make them funny for kids, but just enough restraint to keep it interesting for adults. The bike riding scene in the park is first rate, as is the Esther Williams-style water dancing sequence with Miss Piggy as its star.In short, this British-influened slice of cinema is more sophisticated than the aforementioned "Muppet Movie" and less silly than the subsequent films. It's a great choice. Buy it without hesitation.

This movie is so amazing, it will change lives!
"Muppets Take Manhattan" is my favorite movie of all time, and yes, I'm above the age of 6. This movie gem from Jim Henson and company is nothing short of brillant. It provides a humor that is wonderful for children, yet not insulting to adults. There is a underlying humor that adults will appreciate. The muppet characters stand out in this movie, and it is especially nice to see the movie incorporates most of the main muppet favorites. While Kermit is the main protagonist, other muppets steal the show, such as Miss Piggy, whose temper tantrums are hilarious. The muppets are wonderful together as well, and the songs performed in the movie are classic and very catchy. I also love the human aspect of the movie. One of my favorite things about muppets are that they have always interacted with human society, and no one seems to care. And when the muppets are cavorting around Manhattan, the human element adds a realistic, as well as funny, touch. honestly,...

The Muppets storm NYC and try to get their play on B'Way.
I first saw this movie when I was a little child, and I just saw it again last month at my friend's house. It was just as good as it was when I first saw it more than a decade ago! If you love the Muppets you can not miss this. If you hate the Muppets, watch this and you will love them. It's a great movie for all ages. When you watch the scene when Kermit goes to the producer's office, decked out in an afro and medallion, I strongly urge you not to drink or eat because you just might choke. But all this is just my opinion...see it and judge for yourself.

The Muppets Messed-up DVD
The Muppets Take Manhattan is the third Muppet film and although not the strongest, it's sure to entertain the entire family. The story follows the Muppets on their quest to get their show, "Manhattan Melodies", produced on Broadway. It's a terrific story that hits at the core of what the Muppets are all about, namely putting on a show. Sure the music isn't as memorable as that in the first muppet movie (except "I'm Gonna Always Love You"), but you can't help appreciating the lengths to which the Muppets will go to entertain you. Singing chickens? Got 'em! Frogs with hair? Check! Unbelieveable action sequence? Of course, and it's unbelieveable in more ways than one! A Muppet staple is the cameo and they abound in this film. Everyone from Liza Minelli to Art Carney sets some screen time. Joan Rivers is particularly funny in her over the top make-up scene with Miss Piggy. For all you Trekkers, Gates McFadden even appears as a secretary to a con man...

This hilarious film is truly out of this world
Muppets From Space (not to be confused with the original Muppet Show's Pigs in Space) is one terrific movie. The Muppets redefine themselves on the cutting edge of entertainment, put together a film of nonstop action and hilarity, pull off a rather touching ending, impart an important lesson about life to children as well as adults, and really bring their own special magic to the viewing audience. Feature films permit the Muppet universe to expand in altogether new ways. For one thing, you get to see full-body shots of Muppets doing extraordinary things (rather than having to settle for the old above the waist only shots). More significantly, in relation to this movie, there are some pretty good special effects that really make the Muppet world seem more believable than ever. All of the Muppets look great, and some relatively newer characters are nothing short of hilarious (Pepe the Prawn in particular). Muppets From Space centers around Gonzo, the little guy with the big...

Those Crazy Muppets
This movie was freakin' hilarious! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys and appreciates Muppet hummor. Though, there were some jokes made that were probably geared more towards adults, children would love it as well. It is a light-hearted and fun film.

MUPPETMANIA RETURNS!
This movie is not as funny as the muppets last two offerings ofTreasure Island and A Chrismas Carol the main reason being the lack ofsongs which are often so great remember "We Got Cabin Fever" from Treasure Island. However, this is an original story written especially for the muppets and Gonzo in particular. Its great to see the little guy get a starring role at last and he does it with an oscar winning performance. The film is slightly more serious than previous muppet films, not to say that the film isn't crazy beacuase it is. It's just that there is a serious element underlying the madness. The film does still offer classic muppet moments, the first fifteen minutes are especially fun. And is overall a great movie that will appeal to both young and old and will leave a smile on your face.

Response to D. Bartlett (Miami, FL)
The five PLUS stars are for the MOVIE, not necessarily this 2005 DVD release . . . . (Now that I have seen the new DVD, I give it 3 1/2 or 4 stars. See explanation below.)In Oct. 2002, Disney Home Video released its first DVD formatted THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL. The response was both pro and con. The response that was negative dealt with two primary issues:(1) That the 2002 DVD was pan-and-scan (AKA "full screen" or "1.33:1") instead of widescreen, and, in fact, unlike many DVDs, did not even offer the viewer a choice between pan-and-scan and widescreen. For fans of the movie who prefer widescreen, this was a great disappointment!(2) That the 2002 DVD for Region 2 and perhaps other regions also removed the "When Love Is Gone" song. Disney has not, to my knowledge, offered an explanation for the removal. I would guess that it was because the song is "sad" and someone at Disney probably decided that such a "sad" song did not belong on a DVD...

Two beloved classics combined
Charles Dickens' classic tale "A Christmas Carol" has probably been adapted for stage, screen, and TV more than any other story in the history of literature. Many have been really great -- the Mr. Magoo animated version, Patrick Stewart's one-man stage show, the George C. Scott version, etc. But one of the best is definitely "The Muppet Christmas Carol," directed with heart and intelligence by Brian Henson. This version is particularly noteworthy because it combines two beloved pop-culture icons: Dickens' story and the Jim Henson Muppets. It's been a long time since I read Dickens' original text, but from what I remember, the MCC is quite faithful to Dickens. Like the other Muppet films, MCC combines human actors with the whimsical Muppet characters (just in case you don't know what a Muppet is, it's a sort of puppet). The great Michael Caine plays Scrooge, and the Muppets play other Dickens characters: Kermit the Frog is Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy is Mrs...

The Muppets Show Their Age, But Still Entertain
I did my footwork before purchasing this disc, so I wasn't expecting a classic - I was merely expecting the Muppets to show up.And show up they did. It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie is a decidedly mixed bag which will entertain longtime Muppet fans and impressionable rugrats, but anyone else is going to be mildly amused at best and flat-out bored at worst.Listed as a 2002 production, the film showcases what's left of the faded energy of the old school Muppets ensemble: Steve Whitmire (as a sharp Kermit), and to a lesser extent, Dave Goelz (as Gonzo in more of a supporting role). The "newcomers" provide life to the cast, but also reveal the that these are not the Muppets of our youth - while Eric Jacobsen does a fantastic job filling in for Frank Oz's roles (Piggy, Fozzy, Sam, Animal, even a cameo by Yoda) and Bill Barreta's Pepe is as sly and funny as ever, other classic characters such as Scooter, Janice, and Rowlf are noticeably different, or even...

A Modern Muppet Twist on a Christmas Classic
I'm not really going to go too much into the plot; I will just say it is a modern muppet version of "It's a Wonderful Life" with some other movies thrown in the mix :) This movie has a lot of big names and guest appearances such as Whoppi Goldberg, Joan Cusack, and David Arquette just to name a few, plus all of the muppets! The DVD version also has muppet bios, bloopers, and deleted scenes - although not as entertaining as I had hoped, but still nice little extras. If you love the muppets, I would highly recommend adding this movie to your collection.
