Mayan Mystery
Intriguing mystery that I did enjoy from beggining to end but I have to admit my frustration multiple times in the book where the heroine literally stands dumbfounded without asking questions or acts as if nothing happened when she was practically attacked!?I feel this book is also offered under the wrong genre. While there was some romantic interest I wouldn't classify this book as a romance. The description of the book leads you to believe it's going to be prominent throughout the story and it just isn't. No more then simple, sweet, fleeting kisses.Overall this was a good read and the author paints a detailed picture of Mayan culture for the reader but I probably would have given it more stars had I actually been in the mood for a mystery and not expecting a romance.

Could Not Put It Down
Being a world traveler, this novel captivated me. It's evident Barbara knows all aspects of Peru intimately and I can't wait to go and see it for myself. Her characters and their interactions were so smooth and flowed throughout this mysterious novel. I recommend it to one and all and wonder how long I will have to wait for the next one?

Delightful atmospheric thriller.
Ms. Winther's, The Jaguar Dances, grabbed me from the first chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenes of Peru, the history and atmosphere as the exciting plot developed. Barbara's humor and characterizations of the locals kept my interest up and the leisurely development of the love interest entices me to keep reading the rest of the series. What fun!

Mixed Feelings
The Jaguar Dances is the first "Indie" published book that I have read. It was offered as a free kindle download recently, and based on the reviews I was interested enough to give it a try. The plot of this thriller, in outline form, is excellent. Unfortunately, for me, the translation from outline to finished product was poor. The scenes were set well, with some lovely descriptions of Peru and her peoples, but the action was choppy. The characters were not well developed and not particularly believable. Additionally, typographical and editing errors made for distracting bumps in the reading--specifically words with "FL" frequently left off the "L" which left roads fooding, characters fed down passages, and (my personal favorite) chomping on corn fakes for breakfast. I'd give this author another chance, I think she shows some promise as a writer, but would look for better editing, development of characters and smoother transitions from scene to scene.
