Zelda Rules...Again!
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is such a perfect game. When I heard that a new zelda sequel was coming out, I was afraid that it would have a hard time living up to the greatness of the other zelda games, but I was definitely proven wrong. First of all, the world which you explore is gorgeous. Ever felt like exploring a fairy-tale forest of elf-children? What about a cavern that lies behind a magical waterfall, or maybe a sunny medieval marketplace, or how about an adobe desert fortess, or even a simple peaceful mountain village? It's all in Zelda 64.The gameplay itself is awesome. Link is easy to control, and the 3-D motion of the game is great. The challenge level is perfect too. I played the game without a strategy guide, and I'll admit the infamous Water Temple took me seven days to beat, but the puzzles are respectably challenging and you feel great when you solve them. The bosses are also nicely challenging; it's rare to beat them on the first try...

Danger - it might consume you!
This is undoubtably the best game I have ever played. Everything everyone says above is true. Fantastic graphics, game-play, story, character development, mystery, suspense. You name it. I'm a computer graphics pro - I know a good thing when I see it.OK, someone has to say what the negatives are. I am a very busy 47 year old computer professional. I rarely, if ever, have more than a few minutes to play a video game any more these days. I got this game for my 12 year old daughter, but one day decided to try it out for myself.BANG! I was hooked within the hour. I had to finish the game. Over the next two months (yes, it is THAT DEEP), I spent hundreds of hours, well into the wee hours of the night, playing this game. I would spend 4 to 8 hours at a stretch. I pulled two all-nighters, not even realizing what time it was, till I noticed the sun coming up (haven't done that since I was in college). I was totally consumed and addicted to this game, and had to...

If You Have a N64, Get This Game!
Once again, Hyrule is being threatened by the forces of evil! As Link, the chosen hero you solve countless puzzels, and fight many, many, monsters! This game has about everything! Good graphics, great gameplay, and a wonderful story.Ganondorf, the evil in the game, needs to get the tree spiritual stones to open the Tempe of Time. He threatened the people who have them, but they didn't give him the stones. Link goes on quests to get the tree stones. Once he gets them and Zelda, the princess, gives him the Ocarina of Time, he opens the Temple of Time. But little does he know, Ganondorf followed him.Seven years later link wakes up and Ganondorf rules Hyrule. He spreaded five of the six medallions and had monsters gaurd them. You get the only medallion Ganondorf didn't have and go on a quest to find the others. This game is great and has a wonderful selection of weapons and other things. I highly recommend it and for anyone who has a Nintendo 64, get this game for your 64...

The Legend of ZELDA- Ocarina of Time for NINTENDO 64 CLASSIC GAME!!! Top to learn more

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may be the greatest single-player video game ever created in any genre. It's that good. Those new to Nintendo's enormously popular Zelda series will be glad to know this game stands completely on its own. Our hero, Link, starts the game as a young boy living in a magical forest village populated by elf-like children. But there is evil lurking in the world. Strange monsters are appearing, and the land is changing. It's up to Link to discover why, defeat the monsters, and stop the evil at its source.

The game world's ever-changing environment looks like a fairy tale come to life. Majestic waterfalls, towering castles, and magical forests are a feast for the eyes and ears. Rivers flow, rain falls, the sun and moon rise and set. There's even an erupting volcano! Exploring this world is half the fun of the game. Along the way, you learn musical tunes that you can play on the flute-like Ocarina, a magical device that helps you teleport, alter the weather, even control time itself.

Character interaction is important to gather clues. The fairy princesses, singing frogs, and dragons you'll meet can be cute, humorous, or somewhat terrifying. Sprinkled liberally throughout the game are hundreds of secret treasures and enjoyable minigames (one of which, the fishing game, would almost be worth buying by itself). Game controls are easy to learn. There's even an elaborate fight training course built right into the game. Controlling the hero quickly becomes instinctive, and you can concentrate on saving the world. To win the game, you'll have to use not only Link's sword, but your mind as well. This game's challenging and inventive puzzles really make you think. In fact, to keep from getting stuck, it's worth spending a few bucks on an official player's guide. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo has come up with an all-consuming adventure title that will provide days of engrossing gameplay. --Eric Fredrickson

Pros:

  • Best single-player video game
  • Freedom to explore a rich, complex world
  • Helpful fairy guide gives hints
  • Charming, humorous, lighthearted, yet challenging
Cons:
  • Some puzzles can be frustrating
  • Only one saved game per player--don't save when you're stuck!
  • Much more fun with Rumble Pack

Masterful
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is arguably the greatest video game ever made. Even when running on the Nintendo 64's very limited hardware, it captured the imagination and the hearts of gamers everywhere. Now, this masterpiece has been given a facelift and very impressive 3D remastering for the Nintendo 3DS. Suffice it to say that this is the first game for the 3DS that is worth buying a console over. The story, dungeons and game progression have remained unchanged for this release, so if you're a Zelda purist you'll be happy to know that everything in the original game is intact. The difference is in the graphics quality. It's clear that Nintendo went through some lengths to fulfill the original vision they had for the N64 version. The result is a game that looks brand new. I never played the original version, but playing through the 3DS version I honestly can't picture this ever being on the N64. The faces look MUCH improved, the textures are more realistic...

Feels like going back in time
I have played the original and every iteration after. This version is truely unique. It's not the stunning remastered graphics, because on the gamecube they changed textures and that did little to change much. It's not the easier to manage control scheme, because the game has spaned 3 consoles before this with 2 control schemes (c-stick ocarina was NOT fun). It's the feeling of the game that's really new. I've played before, hundreds of times, and this is game feels like the first. You can tell that those who worked on this have played as much as any other player who's had it since the beginning. From the big changes (like switching from a boomerang puzzle to a bomb puzzle in the Gohma larva room), to the ever so slight (like moving the grated north wall of the first basement room over 1 foot, so you can't collect the skulltula token while jump slashing off the edge and thus have to regular jump)(or like how all the logs on the top floor are all the same length instead of...

Perfection Refined
In the field of motion pictures, a generally accepted norm for "greatest film ever made" seems to be Orson Welles' classic"Citizen Kane." Because games are a relatively young medium compared to cinema, it was only until about 14 years ago thata contender for "greatest game ever made" stepped forth. To this day, many consider it to be the birthing place of 3D conventionsthat are still used quite frequently. That game is "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", and on the 25'th anniversary of theZelda franchise, Nintendo has given it a facelift on it's newest handheld, the 3DS. Diehard fans of the original (raises hand)and newcomers alike are about to astounded by the results. For the virgins in the audience, "Ocarina of Time" follows Link, a young boy who lives in the Kokiri Forest, a place where children frolic about with fairy companions. But a peaceful game this is not, for the patriarch of the forest, The Great Deku Tree, summons the boy...

Two classic Zelda games on one little disk!
To begin, I'd like to admit that I grew up on Zelda since the age of seven during the Christmas of '92 when I bought 'A Link to the Past' not too long after. I immediately became HOOKED!! When I was about nine, I gave the follow-up, 'Link's Awakening' a try (Yes, I've played BOTH the GB and GBC versions already now) and enjoyed it just as much. Finally, when 'Ocarina of Time' hit stores in '98, I was quite curious but a bit unsure if it would take away that good ol' classic feeling that I'd loved as a kid (I am a retro fan after all when it comes to gaming) so I decided to rent it for my N64. I wasn't in any way disappointed. Almost everything about the game resembled to that of the NES, SNES, & GBC originals, aside from the new and impressive 3D look. The dungeons were fun and challenging, the puzzles were well thought out, and the bosses were simply SPECTACULAR! In addition, the controls were easy to master and you could practically do more than before. (With the 64-bit...

Awesome game, however, transfer is slightly slippery
Now, let me star off by saying that I LOVE oot. It's graphics hold up quite well even for today's standards. The camera operation is real jerky and is not that great. The different catagories of the game and it's ratings will be in the gamecube's version review. Now let's talk about the gamecube version. In this package, there is a new, remixed, master-quest version of the game.It is the same game, only the dungeons are different. Now, the transfer from cartridge to disc is actually quite good, considering the technological differences, but in reality,it does have some errors.Errors: Music skips if you enter a different area with the same music. Sometimes the sharpness filter makes 2-D objects more visible. The filter they used is good and bad(sorta). It gives the game a slightly sharper look (which is good), but as said above, it makes the 2-D objects more visible. There is also a boost in resolusion which...

Master Quest is a blast from the past...
For those of you who are like me, you've been replaying Ocarina every couple of years or so. In my book, this is the greatest game ever made. It is the only game I've ever played that keeps my attention for more than an hour (I'm not at all a "hardcore gamer"). So, when I heard about this Master Quest thing, I tried really hard to find one. Unfortunately, I could not initially locate one. But then, one day, a couple of months later, I ran across a used copy in a GameStop. This game is amazing. For me, it's a blast having new dungeons to navigate, and it's also amazing to have the same story I loved going on. It's also a chance to redeem myself, I guess. When I first beat the original on N64, I used a strategy guide for all the dungeons. Now, I can try and beat the game without any sort of outside help. For me, this is a chance of a lifetime of sorts. As corny as this sounds, Ocarina of Time has had an impact on my life. It really taught me to appreciate the...

A must have for true Zelda fans.
As somebody who's a real fan of the Zelda franchise, I was thrilled when I found this little gem for $15 at GameStop. This collection is great. It includes both NES games: The Legend of Zelda, and the less popular Zelda II - The Adventure of Link. Also included are both N64 titles: Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. Finally there is a playable demo for Windwaker. I really like the fact that 4 full Zelda games are found on one gamecube disk. This is especially nice if you only have a Gamecube or a Wii. I know true purists would rather play the games on their original system but if you don't have the original games, or don't have room to have a bunch of consoles set up, this is really a lot more convenient. If you're looking for the OOT Master Quest, you'll want to search for a LoZ 2-game promotional disc including both Ocarina of Time and the Ocarina of Time Master Quest. If you have a 3DS you could also get the OOT remake.

Bad emulation issues with Majora, but overall a winning comp. Notable for being the first major rerelease of the 2 NES Zeldas
A lot of people (myself included), were exited to learn Nintendo was releasing this compilation. 2002/2003 was a very time frame for Zelda fans. Not only did we get this comp, but we also got the long fabled Ura-Zelda that was for the cancelled 64DD attachment that never made its way out of Japan (like so many other video games in history, I'm looking at you Mother, Final Fantasy, and Lost Levels). It was a whole second quest for Ocarina, just like the original Zelda with two different remixed quests. In 2003, Nintendo began the first of many Zelda back game reissues, which was a long time coming. The whole reason for this compilation's existence was so you can play the entire Legend of Zelda series (at that time, anyway) on one system: the GameCube. With the Gameboy Adapter, you could play the entire Zelda catalogue on your GameCube, including the three Gameboy Titles that were out at 2003. Being Zelda fans, a lot of people (myself included), were exited to learn...

Very informative, well worth the money.
I was a bit reluctant about purchasing this at first, given Prima's notorious reputation. In my experience, their guides have been pretty terrible compared to ones like the official Nintendo ones. However, Nintendo stopped producing guides a few years ago, so we're pretty much stuck with brands like Prima and BradyGames. That said, I was very much surprised when I began using this.Firstly, let me just say that Ocarina of Time itself doesn't really require a strategy guide; the game is fairly straightforward. This is really a collector's item. I bought it to have the heart piece and skulltula locations nearby while playing. In terms of information, this guide does a wonderful job. It's very easy to understand, and it's composed of five different sections, including one dedicated to Master Quest (the 2nd quest in the game).I don't really have any complaints about this guide. Is it worth the standard twenty dollar price tag of a strategy guide? Probably not. You...

Very comprehensive guide
Okay so I definitely bought the 3DS just because Nintendo decided to remake Ocarina of Time. Needless to say anymore about that, i will mention that this was one of my favorite games to play when I was younger. I Actually still have two excellent condition guides from the N64 edition of this game. 1st I have the BRADYGAMES Official strategy guide and second I have the Official Nintendo Player's guide. This new Ocarina of Time game guide created by Prima is amazing. It is so much more comprehensive of the entire game than either of the other two books. There are no details left out, the people at Prima definitely spent a lot of time orchestrating this book. The maps are all clearly and accurately marked so that you can find anything you are looking for whether it be a gold skulltulas, a heart-piece, or just a treasure chest in a dungeon. The older books that I have are each lacking in their maps and side-quests. Not to mention that the older books don't even cover...

A good book for getting you through the game... A bad one if you want to get everything.
This book is mostly able to do what it claims. It will hold your hand through the adventure, and technically includes everything it says it does. However, this guide is lacking in some ways from what it could be. I never read the original guide to the N64 classic, but while some of the easter eggs in the game are mentioned as you read, not all are, and you can easily miss certain items. I have already beaten this game, and I was trying to play through at 100%. I bought the guide specifically for the purpose of getting that 100%, but when I reached a certain point in the guide, the writer comments that I should have collected 50 of the Gold Skulltullas; in fact, I only had 30. Without a dedicated list in the main body of the text, I had missed many... Near the end of the Main Quest guide, I found that there was a checklist for these items- a checklist organized by area, rather than finding order. In the end, I decided to wait and try to 100% the Master Quest, which is also included in...

A Personal View of the Classic N64 Title
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)(1998)con., Nintendo 64, pub. Nintendo, dev. Nintendo EAD)There are few things I could say about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that have not already been mentioned by critics, fans, journalists and Nintendo enthusiasts in some form or another at some point in time. The reason being is that Ocarina of Time IS (whether you love it or hate) one of the most praised, well-respected and highly regarded video games in the history of the industry. The game also remains my favorite video game of all-time. It is my intention to discuss certain aspects of the game that I find enjoyable, as well as a few of the facets of the game that I did not take pleasure in. This narrative is more of a personal reflection of the game than a critical review. Please keep that in mind while reading. Let's get stared! The production/creation of this title was no easy task for our old friends over at Nintendo. Not only is there...

Clearly One of the Best
This game has it all. It has action, adventure, puzzles, and even a little 'love' for those of you interested in it. The story is a good length and offers enough side-quests to keep you busy even after you've completed the main storyline. Without giving away any details about the gameplay, there are parts that are even challenging for adults to complete without help from an online guide (though you should avoid these as they tend to give the player a feeling of failure even after successfully completing the game). Overall, without getting too long-winded, this game is well worth the buy and play if you haven't already, and a replay if it's been a while since you have. It is one of, if not the best Legend of Zelda game to date!
