Great reference for reenactors and model makers
This book is a great reference and helped my knowledge when making models of German soldiers. I was of the impression that the Waffen SS used basically the same uniforms of the German Army. This is quite untrue. The Waffen SS had slightly different uniforms than the Heer (Army) and many of the uniforms, such as the excellent DOT 44 pattern, were some of the most superior uniform patterns that have been used in Europe and have only been recently been surpassed in quality and effectiveness by the new US military digital patterns. A model maker or reenactor will see pages of people wearing the correct uniform and the appropriate field gear, such as the correct helmet in a particular period. Note, it would be extremely wrong to show a WWI helmet - an M1917 "coal scuttle" - with a 44 dot pattern uniform. It's true the early Waffen SS used anything the Heer was not using in the beginning. However, post 1943 the Waffen equipment was top-of-the-line and actually better...

Excellent Painting guide
I paint mostly WW2 28mm miniatures many of which are SS. The SS were an elite branch of the axis army. Many wore dotted camo patterns and this book has many close-up pics of the patterns so one can recreate them. Very nice addition to my collection. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the uniforms of WW2.

This book is a one of a three-part series. I find it to be a great reference piece for all serious beginner and advance collector of the Third Reich military. I feel that this book and series is an outstanding reference book showing nice clear photographs and descriptions. Over all a good investment series to have on the uniforms of the Third Reich, or anyone that's interested in the ever changing German military uniforms The Reich.

A MUST HAVE book on the subject of SS uniforms
If you've been looking for a book that offers BOTH wartime photographs AND multi angle/ close up studies of uniforms from actual collections, this book (and the two other volumes from that trilogy) is EXACTLY what you need. More than just a splendid coffee table book, it is an outstanding source of information about the history/construction and regulation for each and every variety of uniform issued to the various branches of the SS ( both BEFORE and DURING WW2) and it is worth every single penny I invested in it. As a militaria dealer, I could simply not afford not to add it to my collection. If you are interested by that subject and don't have those 3 books, then you are missing an essential resource. If on the other hand you want to know the subject in depth and do not plan to buy each and every book on the market, you have to get THAT serie. My only regret is that Mr. Michael D. Beaver is no longer among us to share his amazing knowledge of German Militaria.

The best research on SS uniform for today
A good structurized research that gives you a full view on this subject. Only pants and jackets examined, no caps (as a part of uniform). The volume might be 1,5 times thinner: some pages only half filled with information... But rarity of the items and quality of thier analisys allow to consider this book the best research on SS uniform for today.
