Great resource!
I really enjoyed this book!We have a new Russian Tortoise and needed a beginner's guide of how to house, feed and care for our tortoise. The pictures are wonderful in the book and the author took the time to point out different thoughts, controversial ways and the "why's" of caring for your tortoise when it's not in its natural habitat. I would recommend this book to those wanting to know more about their new pet. My children enjoyed the pictures and the chapters are thorough, yet not exhaustive. For the family needing more than what the pet store gives you, this book is the perfect solution.

On second thought
I thought this book would be more detailed in scope than it was. In fact, I think the website http://www.russiantortoise.org/ is in some ways more informative than this book. I would still recommend purchasing it if you want to absorb as many viewpoints as you can. I feel the author was writing a primer, and not an extensive book on the subject of tortoises. This would be an excellent book for the newbie to tortoises, but for one who has cruised the internet on the tortoises, it may be a disappointment, but it is still worth owning.

To post a pic in a thread, click additional options, then click browse, find the pic you want to post from its location on your computer, select it, then click open. Click on the third one titled "I will upload my own picture" and then on the same page, youll see next to the open bar which is next to the third bubble, click "Browse". There is one small (3 to 4 inch) Russian left, and one greek. If you want to do multiple pics in a single post, resize the pics so that they are less than or equal to 128 KB in total. I bought a russian tortoise at my local mom and pop petstore. The russian didnt have his eyes open and looked very lethargic. On the left side of the page, under "Modify Profile", click "Forum Profile Information". I asked the employee what was wrong with it, she didnt seem to know, and said she would keep an eye on it. He retracted into his shell when she picked him up, but didnt open his eyes. You should now always see your pic in the upper left corner of whatever page youre on while in the forum (and itll show up under your name in threads and posts). Does anyone have experience with a Russian that wont open his eyes. There were five tortoises in the forty gallon tank with almost no substrate, a small water dish, and a food dish filled with some kind of greenish slaw. Im considering going back to buy this tort and save him from these poor conditions on Saturday 2/25.

I had her in the tub because I wasn't sure how my cat would react to her. The cat's actually scared of her.
