I purchased this in January, 2009 to add some additional value to my Netflix subscription. It has far surpassed my expectations, and has proven to be one of the best $100 I have spent in a long time. My best-spent entertainment dollar ever!
I was already a rent-by-mail convert -- switching between Blockbuster and Netflix for a couple of years. For an extra $99, this box has already piped in hundreds of hours of tv shows and movies, filling in the wait times between disks. The Netflix instant movie selection started out not great, but recently they have rotated in some big films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, pop hits like Superbad, the original "Grindhouse" double feature package, as well as lots of older and more obscure releases for adventurous cineastes like me, with NO extra charge to a regular Netflix membership. The addition of Amazon streams will soon make a good thing even better, and more providers should be coming into the mix soon. Kill the cable
This little box rocks. I have killed of all but my local channels on cable. This may have been the best $99. I have spent in years. My sons and I use it everyday. At first I was concerned about content, but there are like 12000 things to choose from...We have watched season 1,2 and in the process of season 3 of Heroes. You have no idea how cool it is to see shows like this with no commercials. Tons of movies to choose from. I really like the fact that the company has more than delivered on what they promised. I bought the box to add to my Netflix and now I can get amazon video on demand as well, and it didn't cost anything for the upgrade. Anyone that it doesn't snap in is a dope like me
If it doesn't snap you probably forgot to take the little rubber protectors off the end of the cable... like I did for about a minute. Once removed it snaps in perfectly.The cable is high quality, long, and very flexible and has nicely constructed connectors. And it is about 1/4 the cost of radio sxxxx and bsst buy, both being rip-off artists on items like cables.Its things like this that will make me a prime return customer. These Really 'Sound' like Good Cables
These cables are pretty awesome.Initial setup (who cares): The cable came in an easy to open cardboard box. The plastic tips needed to be removed but that hardly was an issue given I have opposable thumbs.Sound quality: The quality of the sound was on par with some of the more expensive cables I've had previously. I didn't notice any interference and it sounded fairly clear.In general there isn't too much to say about this product; either it works or it doesn't work. It works and I recommend it.

Never Buy Overpriced Cables

My favorite quote from the slim setup manual: "Step 3 establishes your network connection and bring out your inner geek. You can do it!" Well, setup is about as easy as it could possibly be and there's really nothing geeky about it. Choose your wifi network name and enter the password. No requirement to choose the encryption standard (WEP, WPA etc) or anything more technical than username and password. You will need a computer to create an account at Roku and associate it with your new box.Once setup is complete, driving the user interface via a very straightforward IR remote is intuitive. IR is quite directional and you might want to position the Roku box where you most naturally point the remote. This should be easy because the Roku is remarkably small at just a couple of inches square. I love Roku, but.....
I love Roku and the whole Roku experience. It allowed me to "cut the cable" and save a good bit of money each month. It gives me plenty of programming, most of it free. It's also adding new channels all the time, about 360 or so at the moment.I current own the previous Roku XD 2050x and love it. It's not a perfect product, but it's a darn good one.This review is on my current purchase, the Roku 2 XD. It's not a perfect product either and it's just been released. It's also not quite ready for prime-time, but almost...There are some differences between the XD and the Roku 2 XD. Most are good, but I do have two gripes. The original XD had both a wired connection and wireless available. I use wireless, but wired can be handy. When I first received my original XD, it wouldn't properly connect with my router. A Basic Cable at a Good Price
This is the HDMI cable to get right now: an HDMI 1.4 cable at a good price.HDMI 1.4HDMI 1.4 is the latest standard (as of November 2010 at least). It is backward compatible with other HDMI gear (mine all are HDMI 1.3 compliant). And it will be more useful to you if your TV supports HDMI 1.4 networking. I was not able to test the Ethernet networking capability of this cable, but I think the idea behind it is a good one.For my current home entertainment setup, I had to set up separate Internet connections on my TV, set top box, Blu-Ray player, and WD TV LIVE (HTPC). It would have been a lot easier if I could have just set up my TV's internet connection, and allow all of my components to share it. That's what HDMI 1.4 promises to let you do--as long as all of your hardware, including the cables, supports it. Equal to Cables at 5X the Price
This is an excellent HDMI cable. I was skeptical seeing Amazon come out with their own cables, but these are very good quality. I would equate them to the higher end Belkin Pure AV line, which you can sometimes find at the best prices. These cables are even less than that! And the packaging is nice ... no fussing with scissors and that super-sealed plastic that cables usually come in - just pop 'em out and hook 'em up! Great!

A bit difficult to maneuver
I hooked this braided HDMI cable between my HDTV and my computer to stream video from the internet to my HDTV. The picture is clear and the sound quality is very good. I don't see any difference while using this cable from computer to HDTV than I do when watching TV directly from my satellite box. The only problem I have with this cable is that it is very thick due to the braiding, which makes it hard to turn. I need to plug it into one side of my HDTV, loop it around the back of the TV and bring it out on the other side where I place my computer out of tripping range. The thickness of the cable makes it hard to loop around and it's heavier than the other cables I have. This cable would probably be best for professional use where there might be heavy usage and plugging and unplugging of the cord. It will probably stand the test of time and constant movement easier than the regular smooth vinyl cables. But, for normal home use, the vinyl cables are easier to handle...

This device saved me from buying a new television.
I have an older 2004 Toshiba 65" HD projection TV. It has always worked well with DVDs and our area finally got HD television service about a year ago. So now we can finally enjoy our HD television for all it's worth. Suddenly after about 6 months of service we started receiving an error message when we turned on the cable TV. "Your HDMI cable does not support HDCP". More recently I purchased an Apple TV2. After a few months and a software update I received the same message. Apple support told me it was because my older TV was not HDCP compliant. The solution would be to buy a new television, but it seemed ridiculous to waste over a thousand dollars for a new set when this older one works fine. This device solved my dilemma. It works well to bridge the gap between old and new technology. Any HDMI device can be hooked up through this box with RCA style component cables and avoid the HDCP problem. Recommended!

A MUST FOR APPLE TV2 USERS THAT HAVE AN OLDER TV!!!
This thing works great! I bought an Apple TV2 and I have an older plasma TV that has no HDMI hook-ups. I tried an HDMI to DVI cable and the only thing the Apple TV2 did was show a white apple logo on a black screen. I knew that I had to get a HDMI to Component converter box to make this work. Most of the converters I saw were in the $200 to $300 range. Most of the cheaper converters got bad reviews. However I took a chance on this one and the chance paid off. This converter was easy to hook up and the picture quality on my Plasma looks awesome. There is also a second HDMI port on the converter so you can connect another HDMI only product to the TV.

Works perfect on my new Toshiba TV!!
I have an older Panasonic Stereo and recently purchased a Toshiba LED 3D TV. Like one of the other reviewers said the latest TV's do not come with a analog audio output. My Toshiba TV came with a digital optical audio output but my Panasonic stereo does not have a digital optical audio input. So I read the reviews on this little digital audio converter and decided to give it a try. Remember you will need a optical cable (I had one that came with one of my components) I plugged the optical cable into my TV digital audio female connector, the other end of the cable plugs into the digital audio converter on the output of the converter I plugged in the red and white analog audio cables that connect to my stereo and plugged in the power supply and flipped the little switch on the converter, a little green led came on that said locked and now any audio that plays on my tv can also be played on my stereo!!! Best news is there is no delay! It works perfectly! in fact if I turn on the stereo...

Nice little device.
Hi. Just received this converter. Glad I found it before buying any other one. It has a superior look and finish compared to other similar products. On paper, 24bit/192KHz operation, snr >90dB at only $30, this is unbeatable specs/price ratio. I don't think there is any better product for that price over there.I have just checked all my sound sources with it (Media Center PC audio sources, Blu-Ray movies, etc, Cable Box) from a LG LED TV optical out to stereo wireless headphones, and everything runs ok. I know it does not decode Dolby so I had previously configured my digital sources to PCM, stereo or whatever option was available.LG, as well as other TV manufacturers, for any obscure reason, they seem to have decided not to provide RCA stereo outputs anymore. Furthermore my TV has a minijack for headphones on rear panel that mutes the TV speakers as soon as you plug or leave something plugged into it. They must think they are so 'intelligent' those TV chip...

Affordable DAC will work for 99.99% of all people
If you need a solid DAC for converting an optical digital audio signal to RCA or RCA to optical, this is a nice unit at a good price.I did some research into DAC chips. This unit contains a very good DAC chip. Having said that, I ran the audio signal from different devices through my Sony HDTV (2010 basic model) via an HDMI cable. The Sony HDTV has a DAC in it too and RCA outs (analog out is increasingly rare on HDTVs). I was able to compare audio quality running the audio through the HDMI via the HDTV DAC to RCA and then to an amp AND from different devices directly with optical (Toslink) to this DAC, and then RCA to the amp. The speakers were Magnepan MMGs. All digital audio signals that had Dolby Digital were reduced to two channel stereo in various device settings or were that way to begin with. The drawback with the Spears & Munsil disc is that it's exclusively for Blu-ray; unlike the similar Digital Video Essentials disc, it can't help you adjust your HDTV if your input device of choice (Apple TV, Roku, Xbox 360) can't read Blu-ray discs.
