By the time it's 2012 everything in here will be nearly a year old. It's not just Rand McNally, all the map companies do it. Obviously a marketing ploy to get it out there before the summer driving season. Go figure, just some food for thought.If you do decide to buy this Rand McNally map I strongly suggest you read the map legends on the back of the front cover page. They will show you the symbols that represent rest areas, type of roads, state parks ,parking areas, the size of towns, and cities, plus many more items that have to be abbreviated ,since they would not fit on the Map in full size. This map is large " 15 in. By 10 1/2 in, " but necessary to fit everything in so it is legible. I...

The best general road atlas
I've tried several road atlases over the years but always keep coming back to Rand McNally. Their atlases are simply the easiest to read, most complete and informative, and up to date. I'm happy to say that the 2012 edition is even clearer and printed better than the 2009 edition I'm replacing: the fonts and road lines are just slightly sharper and that makes an excellent atlas even better.Some folks may wonder whether an atlas is necessary alongside a GPS. Absolutely, it is. Nothing beats having the ability to see a large area in high detail, and to be able to consider last-minute changes and detours along a route, which are essentially impossible with a GPS.While I'm driving, my wife routinely looks at the atlas to consider other routes, to find out what mountains are off in the distance, where a certain road goes, how far is it to some other place off the main path, and so forth -- a lot of entertainment and learning in addition to the basic map...

Finally! A manageable atlas that is easy to read!
A recent roadtrip with our old atlas made us wish we'd brought along a magnifying glass and it prompted me to purchase this Atlas. Granted, this one has almost twice as many pages as my old atlas, but the dimensions are the same and the spiral binding makes it very easy to handle in the car. As soon as it arrived, we compared the text size to that in our original atlas and we saw a definite advantage. Very nice!

If you like road maps, this is the one for you
I have loved maps since I was a teenager. At one level, I just enjoy picking a state and seeing its geographical features and how I would get from one place to another. This Rand McNally Road Atlas is one that I have been using for over 40 years.The 2007 version is top notch, like its predecessors. The maps that suggest how long it takes to go from one place to another are terrific; the suggested attractions that one might visit are very helpful; tourist and hotel information is very nice.However, it is the state by state maps that are the central feature of this publication (as well as maps of Mexico and Canada and Puerto Rico). Anyone who is interested in how to get from Point A to Point B will revel in this work.There are even road construction updates available online for those who buy these maps.All in all, this is one of those "golden oldies" that merits consideration by those of us who want to know how to get from one place to...

This is the Road Atlas you want.
I had an old 2004 AAA Road Atlas which I found truly helpful. My wife and I are planning an extensive road trip. We wanted an updated road atlas. Not paying enough attention, I purchased the Rand McNally atlas by mistake and was disappointed. I took note of the maker of my old 2004 atlas. It was the AAA atlas. I puchased the 2011 AAA Road Atlas and I am very happy with its maps and method of presentation.The 2011 AAA Road Atlas maps are clearly presented on white paper. The printing is clear and readible. I am interested in the details it includes. It is not cluttered with stuff I don't care about.This is the road atlas I want and I believe that this is the road atlas you would want, as well.By the way, for our road trip, I purchased the 2011 edition of "The Next Exit". This book will help us find what we need while we are on the interstate. If you are planning a road trip, look up this book, you may find it useful.

AAA Road Atlas - in one volume
I looked at several types of road atlases before deciding on this one. I had almost decided to buy the Large Type edition when I read a review stating that some of the city maps went on for two, three, or more pages, thus making the Atlas hard to follow.This AAA Road Atlas is the regular print edition. As such all states or cities are one one page which, of course, has its drawback: the print is much smaller and thus harder to read. To remedy this situation I simply use the Atlas to plot out Interstate highways along my proposed route of travel. A quick look and I can tell which route is shorter or more congested with city traffic.All in all, the Atlas was a good buy because it eliminated having a gaggle of state maps cluttering up the car. For in-city navigation to specific addresses, I use a GPS.

Wonderful Road Atlas: Nice Balance Between Size and Detail
When recently examining road atlases for the United States, I was surprised at the weak offerings I found from map brands I assumed would be good. I was very happy to find the "Michelin Road Atlas 2011". Here's my point-by-point assessment:Good:- Covers Mexico and populous portions of Canada, as well as the United States- Land area is divided into a simple grid, which is indexed in an easy-to-read national map in the front of the atlas- Map edges are labeled with the next map in that direction- Some areas, notably in the very urban northeastern United States have a special set of extra maps, giving needed detail of those areas- City-specific maps are provided for a large number of large- and medium-sized cities- Boundaries of city maps and "extra" maps are drawn on the regular grid maps- Binding allows the atlas to lay flatCould have been better:- The special extra maps mentioned above probably should have been...

I have used Michelin road maps/atlases for years and they just keep getting better.This is spiral bound, so you can turn it to the page you want and keep it there. There is an easy to decipher key to the map pages; look where you want to see the roads and it will give you a page number in the square - turn to that page and the edges will lead you on to the correct pages from there as you are looking or traveling. There are squares around cities with a page number where you can then turn to a more detailed map of an urban area. These maps are well detailed, even for back roads and cities. The pages are smooth, easy to handle, but sturdy enough that they do not tear easily.There is also an index of the states and major cities, and instructions on how to use the book, if you need them. A US map with interstates and 4 pages of scenic drive descriptions are incorporated. Also included is a city to city distance chart, parks with GPS coordinates, tourism and border crossing...

Michelin Road Atlas
The atlas is adequate for most applications. I wanted the spiral binding, for ease of use while traveling, and this works well. I am disappointed with the format, as it is necessary to address the index page for the page numbers of desired maps. Instead of being organized state by state, the US map has been divided into grids and it is necessary to determine which grid the area wanted is in and then get the page number from the grid and finally find that particular page. It is cumbersome to use and does not allow for a quick reference. In addition, it is small, just slightly larger than an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper. The map lacks fine detail and it was necessary to use my magnifying glass to read some features. There is a fair amount of useful information in the addendum. However, the mileage tables could be expanded to include more locations.

Excellent anatomy review book- especially for the COMLEX
It is difficult finding an adequate review book for the COMLEX. The COMLEX asks more anatomy questions than the USMLE and these questions are often detailed. This book has excellent clinical references (like the Moore-Dalley blue boxes) and sums up the details you will need to know. It might be too detailed of a book for the USMLE since anatomy tends to be a lower yield subject on this exam. If you are planning on taking the COMLEX, however, this review book is a must-have.

Reality
Good USMLE step 1 anatomy books are really tuff to come by, and, unfortunately, this book is one of the best on the market. Lets face it, it is a low yeild topic that is really tough to review, and if you take this book at face value, you are going to be wasting a lot of time reading about minute details that don't matter. Each chapter is really bogged down in picky details about the orientation and placement of structures within the body, which means that you are going to need to spend some time to go through this book in its entirety. The good news is that there is a much easier way to study for USMLE step 1 anatomy using this book. Each chapter has boxes that gives clinical scenarios about how an anatomic problem might present. I had no anatomy question on step 1 that wasn't covered in these boxes! Know them well, and you will do well on step 1's anatomy! I also recommend looking at the radiographic pictures in this book. A good review, but watch for errors
This is a helpful book for hitting the high points of gross anatomy in a concise and easy-to-read format. Pluses of the book include simple illustrations and clinical correlates (and a lower cost than most USMLE review books), but that seems to come at a cost--there are a number of errors throughout the book, most notably regarding the nervous system. I would highly recommend using a different source to study autonomic innervation. Otherwise, this is a good reminder of those long-forgotten anatomy facts in a quick and easy format.
