The best book I've read on LLC's!
I recently formed an LLC and wished I had read this book first, it would have saved me a lot of wasted time and money. It really is light years ahead of the other similar books I purchased both in information provided, and in the easy to read way it's presentated. What I especially like about it is everything is put into the proper context and all the dots are connected in a way that really helps the reader make sense of how a LLC should fit into their total business plan... I can't recommend this book enough.

a must read
We are in the process of becoming a LLC and I bought the book hoping for some answers in one syllable or less. This is a must read book for anyone thinking of forming a LLC. It answered all my questions and brought up some questions I need to ask my lawyer. I have had it only a couple of months and have read it twice and will probably refer to it again. It gives the lay person insite into the LLC and helps you answer questions about forming maintaining and ending a LLC.You need to read this before going any further into organizing a LLC. It also gives you alternatives to a LLC too. The version with the CD rom with it provides current forms that need to be filed with each state which is a plus.

Great introduction to LLCs!
I ordered this book after thinking about starting a real estate rental company. I've looked around at other books and read a bunch of reviews, and so far I've found this one to be the best introductory book that isn't half-filled with standard forms and filler (those forms come on the included CD).The book specifically suggests how to form an LLC for real estate businesses, so it was perfect for me. The author goes on to say that everyone should form an LLC to protect their assets from personal lawsuits (which, while expensive in some states, not a bad idea). The chapters are self contained and cross referenced so you can jump around to what's pertinent to you, and it's easy to jump from setting up ownership (chapter 2) to how to cancel membership shares (chapter 10).The only thing that could be better about the book is more information on state-specific laws and regulations. A quick and essential read for the new LLC owner
I had to convert my sole proprietorship to a LLC in order to obtain certain insurance. I knew nothing of what an LLC was about, short of it providing asset protection for business owners. My search online drew me to this book, which summarized very well the minimum must-know information about running an LLC. If you are going to form your business into a LLC and have a rudimentary business background, as I do, this book will be the first, non-overwhelming step to avoiding possible future dissolution of your expensive LLC investment -- and possibly losing your personal assets. It also whets your appetite for understanding other important aspects of running your business!

Excellent Book!
Using this book---and perhaps, a Nolo book or two---you can set up your own wealth protection plan, and assure that the lion's share of your assets will actually past to your intended beneficiaries---not to the government. Sutton writes at the perfect level for the intelligent layperson---not "for dummies", but also, not in unintelligible "legalese".Another nice touch: although he does mention the various services his firm provides, the usefulness of this book is not at all dependent on that. (Although, after reading this book, I think you will conclude that Sutton is a very knowledgable, and reasonable person, and that using his services may not be a bad idea at all.)In short, this book actually delivers what so many others only promise.

The critical information missing in all the other LLC/LLP books
I've read more than a dozen LLC/LLP/Corp books and this is BY FAR the BEST book (in its class) on how and why to use these business structures. Most other books give poor advice and consist of second rate templates and forms. They also devote as much as half of the pages to printed forms and state by state details that would be best left to the CD and to visiting the state web site - I guess it makes the book look bigger.The author explains why you want to use the various entities, their advantages and disadvantages for both limited liability and tax treatment. He also includes Family Limited Partnerships for estate planning. This is a must read before you select the entity of choice and before you visit your attorney/CPA, etc. (No book is a substitute for a great attorney, but this one will help you minimize the bill.)He has some forms, which are actually fairly good. The two drawbacks are only a few forms and there is no CD, so you'd have to type them...

You file the LLC, pay the annual fee to the state and you're done right?That's why I and I'm sure many other LLC owners thought until a lawyer friend was doing a review of my business one day and started asking me if I was keeping up with the necessary documentation--such as doing promissory notes for the loans I made to the business and resolutions for this and that. A thorough guide and templates for a full-blown LLC
I have a LLC which has only one member (myself). It is not a complex operation, and I was able to figure out everything from online resources.This guidebook is GREAT for someone who has a medium sized LLC beyond one member. Forms and templates for almost any business need are included. Unfortunately for me the vast majority of those forms and instructions are for things that I'll never need.Also, there are specifics that vary by state for LLC; this book is doesn't pertain to any one state, so you will still need to do additional research on operating your LLC within your state.In summary, if you just need the LLC to protect assets and you are the only member, you probably don't need this book. But if you have a medium to large LLC with employees, meetings, etc, this guidebook and template (with CD-ROM containing templates), this is a great "operating manual".
