This book has been written in response to the increasing volume of building work in the domestic housing market. More houses are being extended, converted or insulated than ever before and the repair and maintenance market remains the bread and butter work of most small to medium contractors. Instead of simply presenting items of construction work in either an SMM7 format or in trade categories, this book will present cost data under the heading of a particular size and type of extension, conversion etc. This should make it easier for the busy contractor's estimator to use. Recessed Light Cover
We recently had an energy audit done on our home. To our amazement, when the pressure system was put in a doorway and turned on we could feel air flowing on our faces from our recessed lights! It was recommended we cover all 26 of our lights in the attic with something. We researched on line, found these covers and ordered them thru Amazon. Once they were installed and our home was retested we no longer felt any air leak and better yet, we received a check to help cover the cost.

Easy to place
I added insulation to our attic to try to reduce our gas bill. We had some non-IC can lights which needed covering. Most of them I covered with Insullite boxes, because they're cheaper. But where the cans were harder to cover due to cramped space/difficult access I used these. They are much easier to work with. They're soft and moldable, but stiff enough to not collapse. They are surprisingly easy to cut with scissors for fitting around wires, etc. and maintain their overall shape. In other words, the cut areas sprang back together even when the Tenmat cover was squished a little. I'm a little concerned because at 9" high, they are only 2" over the can lights, which are 7" tall. But I've got CFLs in everything, so I don't think we're generating much heat. And you might want to know that metal foil tape does not adhere to these very well. But the Tenmat covers stay in place pretty well on their own.

Product Description
TENMAT is a leading manufacturer of High Temperature Engineering Materials and Fire Protection Components.
The TENMAT FF130E Insulation Protection Cover is made out of a fire resistant material and was specifically designed to protect your light fixture from insulation in the attic and to stop unwanted airleakage through your recessed light.
The FF130E has been tested in accordance with UL1598 for usage with IC and Non-IC rated recessed lights (See Installation Instructions for maximum lamp wattage and types).
Most recessed lights are not compatible with insulation and oftentimes start cycling on/off after they have been buried with cellulose, foam, fiberglass, etc.
The lights' malfunction is a concern and a safety hazard.
Pushing the insulation away is not an effective solution since it creates air passages in the building envelope and wastes energy.
According to the Department of Energy, recessed lights account for 50% of the total thermal losses of a ceiling.
Due to the improved airtightness and insulation, TENMAT users experience significant energy savings. TENMAT Recessed Light Covers allow the insulation to be continuous and uninterrupted over the whole area of the ceiling, therefore saving energy.
The FF130E covers are fit within seconds and do not require assembly or special tools. Simply put the flexible and lightweight cover on top of your light fixture - Done Deal!
Benefits: -- Fire Safe -- Reduces heat loss through the light fixture. -- Limits the amount of cold or hot air entering from outside. -- Prevents insects and other small animals from entering through the light. -- Keeps insulation away from standard recessed lights. -- Easy fitting - can be fitted in seconds - no screws, drilling or assembly required. -- Enhances the acoustic protection of the ceiling. -- Maintenance free. -- Please note: Recessed light NOT included! Sold individually, price is per cover. This product CANNOT be used in 1 or 2 hour fire rated ceiling assemblies. Top to learn more
Work fine for me
I used to have a problem with cold air coming through my recessed lights and it made my living room and bedroom very uncomfortable, especially now in the winter time. I put these over the existing can and they completely stopped the cold air. I don't know how much money they will save me on my energy bill in the long run, but the regained cozy feeling in my home was definitely worth it.

Works Great!
Despite being skeptical, I bought one of these for my attic ladder. I have been in my house less than a year, so I don't have a good comparison for utility bill savings. However, I can tell you that when I climb the ladder and unzip the attic tent there is a huge temperature difference from the heated to unheated space. When zipped up, there is virtually no airflow from the house to the attic. Before installing the Attic Tent I could feel the airflow around the attic ladder door. Now there is none.Installation was very easy. I could not be happier with this purchase. Top to learn more
Best Seal for a Huge money Eating Hole in Your Ceiling
I was looking for a solution to insulate my new attic stairs. Thought of building my own cover with insulated boards or buying that other box (battic door/hatch) they sell here, but I discovered I didn't have a perfectly flat surface to rest the box on. There were too many protruding 2x4's supporting the adjacent raised floor that is used to accommodate the attic A/C unit. This thing is made of foam covered in some polyester material which is flexible enough that you can install around imperfections near the attic ladder. It's true the R-value is low, but the goal of this thing is to stop all airflow from conditioned to unconditioned space. The pocket of air created between the tent and the plywood of the attic ladder will provide additional insulation value. I would say 99% of the airflow stops (remember it's zippered and a minimal amount will get through the seems?. Once you install it in place, caulk all around the perimeter. I stapled it and then spread an entire tube... Top to learn more
Worthwhile investment
This device was easy to install and immediately made a big difference in ambient temp on the second floor of our old home. Too early to speak to heating/ cooling costs, but we are far more comfortable and are very pleased with our purchase. Top to learn more
The AT-2 is 25"W x 54" x 7"H and fits attic ladders with a 25" x 54" attic opening size and 1x4 side rail. (Measures 7" or less above the ladder frame when the attic ladder is closed.
The Attic Tent has an insulating value of R-3.2. It is a specially engineered, patented insulator designed to create an air transfer barrier between your attic and living areas. It is a practical and economical solution to a problem that has existed since homes were first built with overhead attic entries. That problem is wasted energy through and around the attic door and stairs. It insulates folding attic stairs, knee wall doors, and attic scuttle holes. Top to learn more

Good product idea, mediocre quality
The product consists of a cardboard box, a sheath of reflective material and two stips of batting insulation. The box was torn & the tabs would't stay in their slots. The seller sent another box promptly - also torn. I wrote the seller, who said the box was still ok even if it was torn & didn't send another. Good product idea, mediocre quality, prompt email response but no intention to improve. On the plus side, it was quick and easy to put together, and, albeit the box needs some reinforcement to be able to last (I will tape the torn sections and the edges of the box to make them more durable). If the quality were better, I'd recommend purchasing it since the functionality you get for the time and money invested is a decent trade off. Top to learn more
It looked good on paper
Because of the sheer mass of this assembled unit, we found it impossible to get it in between the 22 inch bays and when lifted end up; it did not clear the trusses. I was necessary to not use the box that was provided to form the inside structure. With other cardboard and a lot of duct tape we have it working. It is now doing what it was designed to do. The parts and the design that were given us did not work in our attic. I suggest you measure the distance between your trusses and consider what would happen when you need to lift it off to get into the attic. Where will it go --is there enough clearance? We could have bought the parts from the hardware store and built it our self cheaper. Again being fair, we were able to modify it and get it to work however. Top to learn more
