No Drama. It.Just.Works!
Simplicity in true form.The drive arrived and was unpacked from its box. I connected the drive to its cable and then plugged the cable into the USB port on my laptop and, Poof!, I had a new 1TB drive of storage space. That's it. That's all I had to do.The drive comes with pre-installed backup software -- full then incremental -- which you DO NOT have to download and install onto your computer, it's all self contained. If all you want is to drag and drop files then you can do that, too.I was able to back up about 7.5 GB of data in half an hour which isn't bad for an external USB drive using USB 2.0 since I don't have USB 3.0 available at this time.The unit itself measures 4.5" X 3" X 0.75" and comes with a 17" cable. Power for the drive comes from the USB port. My machine is a Toshiba Satellite A105 using Windows 7 Pro.The drive is simple, compact, and does exactly what it's supposed to do without any complaints...

I hope this review will be helpful for those wondering if the drive is Mac-compatible, since that isn't mentioned anywhere in the product description.This drive was absolutely painless to set up... it's formatted for Windows, but reformatting for Mac is very simple. Plug it in, it pops up on your desktop. Go to Disk Utilities (utilities folder in Applications), choose the drive, then Mac from the drop-down format menu. It reformats the drive quickly and easily.File transfer is very fast on my MacBook Pro, and it works seamlessly with Time Machine for backups (just choose it as your backup disk when you open the application). The fact that the drive is "future-ready" for USB 3.0 is also a big plus.

Sleek, Affordable, Great Value
This is a light, sleek, extremely affordable portable hard-drive, perfect for the on-the-go business traveler or even as a desktop storage solution. It's hard to believe that 1 TB of storage can come in such a slim package for such a low price. The drive fits in my breast pocket.By comparison, this week I bought a Seagate FreeAgent Go-Flex 1TB external hard-drive that's priced the same (at least at the discount wholesalers where I shop). However, it's much bigger, bulkier, and is powered by an adapter rather than getting it's power from USB port, the way the HP does. On top of that, the Seagate constantly ejects itself, runs hot, and doesn't power off when the computer shuts down. It has been a pain-in-the-butt from the get-go.But the HP has been a pleasure from the instant I opened it from the box and plugged it in. It's fast, slim, easy-to-use, and gentle on the credit card. 2 TB never looked so good
Its sleek and exceedingly easy to use,just plug it in and let it do its thing.you might want to take the time to organize your files to the way you like them b-4 you plug it in to your computer for the first time because it carbon copy's everything right down to how your files are set up its fantastic. If you leave it plugged in you never have to worry it scans and saves after 5 minutes idle time ,I love my new external hard drive!

This drive is received under the Vine program, but I try to rate it as if I bought it at its current price. Great backup drive
I am using this drive with a new HP PC with Windows 7. I am thoroughly delighted with the SimpleSave drive. Everything about it, from price to ease of use to reliability to its speed, is superb. It has performed flawlessly for me and hasn't missed backing up any of my new or modified files. I am using this drive for what it was intended: as a BACKUP drive for music, photos, emails, Office documents, etc. In that regard I recommend this drive without reservation. Plug it in, let it do its work, and you're done. Perfect. Also, browsing the backed up files on the drive is a snap, as is doing restores. It couldn't be easier. If you're looking for a real BACKUP drive for your important files, (not one to necessarily create a mirror image of your entire PC hard drive), get this one.

Good, simple, backup storage drive
If you're looking for a simple way to automatically back up your data this drive will do quite well. However, as several other reviews have pointed out, don't be misled into thinking this will function as an ordinary external hard drive.HP has basically installed their own backup utility software into the drive. The first time you plug it in, it will run the software, scan your computer for files and back them up. It will automatically recognize music, video, office or word documents, etc) If this is what you're looking for, it functions quite well and is very easy to use, particularly if you are not the most computer savvy person out there.However, if you're a most advanced user looking to dictate what gets backed up where and how all the space on the drive is utilized, it may not be the best option.

Nice backup software - unless you don't want to use it.
The software, Windows only, works pretty simply. If you are after a decent, small, slick backup drive with specific software this may do you well.However, if you want to use the Simplesave as a plain external hard disk you're in for a rude surprise. The backup software is installed on a "Virtual CD-ROM" partition that is installed on the drive in some very low level manner so that you can't get rid of the 500M of wasted "virtual CD-ROM" partition. Why didn't HP just put the software in the root drive of the data partition? Unfortunately, it's another typical "cram the software down your throat" HP product.
