Product Description

** 7 GIANT BLUE/GREEN HOSTA SEEDS ** Hostas are extremely popular, hardy herbaceous perennials grown primarily for their beautiful foliage. They are easy to grow, shade-tolerant plants. Leaves come in a wide range of shapes, colors, sizes, and textures and may be solid in color or variegated in different combinations of blue, green, white, and gold. The plants are low maintenance. The blue color is actually a green leaf coated with a wax that makes it appear blue. The wax tends to "melt" from the leaf following exposure to sun and the heat of summer. Hostas are considered shade-tolerant plants, but most do not thrive if grown in deep shade. Hostas grow best in an exposure with morning sun and afternoon shade. Some cultivars will tolerate some afternoon sun, although plants grown in full afternoon sun (especially variegated plants) will show signs of marginal burning on leaves in the summer months. Product Description

Hostas are a versatile addition for shady gardens and along sunless northern house foundations. They can be planted in mass and used as ground cover or some are large, showy plants that stand alone. This variety, Hosta sieboldiana, is nice and large. It produces large rounded-heart shaped leaves that are slightly wrinkled and a bluish-green in color. In the summer, white to lavender blooms emerge. They are trumpet-shaped and attractive to hummingbirds. Hostas thrive in partial shade to full shade and in moist but well-drained soil. Start Hosta seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the end of frost season. With average home temperatures, germination is usually within 35 days. Press the seed into the soil, cover it lightly with peat moss and keep the seed moist. Plant outdoors after danger of frost has passed and space the Hosta plants 30 inches apart. Hosta sieboldiana resists damage from slugs. Top to learn more

Customer Review

Grew like crazy!
These are great!! I have huge Coleus all over the place in pots. Looks like I spent a fortune. I didn't even plant these in new dirt like I did some other seller's that didn't come up even though I pampered them. I just bought a big package of these, threw them in all my old pots and I've got more Coleus blooming all over the place (even in a drought in late Aug. and a horrible 98 degree summer) than I know what to do with! Some of the seeds you purchase on Amazon are not very good but these I'm going to buy for next year early.

Product Description

Coleus are easy to grow. Gardeners grow them both outdoors, and as indoor houseplants. Originating in Africa and Indonesia, Coleus tolerates shade well, making them a great indoor houseplant. They do well in shade gardens, pots and containers, and in hanging baskets. Top to learn more

grew beautifully, but no variety
I planted about half the packet in several large planters with some Miracle Grow potting soil and almost every single seed germinated very quickly. My only complaint is that even though I planted about 100 seeds (I was going to cull out the duplicates so I could get the variety I wanted) every plant is same exact type of coleus- purple center with green rim (I believe it's Solenostemon 'Apocalypse'). I was really hoping for more of a variety, such as the coleus in the product description photo. If you are okay with ONE type of coleus, then go ahead and grab these seeds. But if you want a true variety, you may not be getting it in this pack.

This is Not a Rainbow Mixture!
My coleus took almost two months to germinate, but I didn't do anything special with them like heating or stratifying; just planted them in starter pots outside. I'm relieved to see them coming up, but like another reviewer stated, there is NO variety whatsoever. They are all the neon green with purple center. Every single one. I planted all of them, so either this is a falsely named supply or some packets just happened to get only one color? If you're looking for variety, better order something else. The price is right so I'm not too upset, as I think they're turning out otherwise. The whole packet cost less than a single six-pack of plants at the store.

Product Description

HOSTA: It is difficult to find a garden that is without this versitile East Asian native. Lush foliage in diverse colors, heights and textures, coupled with its ability to excel in deep shade have captured gardeners' hearts everywhere.

This 2008 Hosta of the Year Has Leaves no Bigger than Your Pinkie!

Soft blue-green coloring with hints of gold at the base.
Such a delight, 'Blue Mouse Ears' sets exquisite soft blue-green leaves, gently curled, just 2 3/4 inches long and 2 inches wide. A tightly mounded, dense plant, it reaches only 6 inches high and a foot wide, but draws the eye with its cool tones and soft texture.

This Hosta is a sport of H. 'Blue Cadet,' a miniature that makes up for in vigor what in lacks in size. New foliage unfurls from the center of the plant all season, and the older leaves keep their blue tones well in summer heat. At the base of each leaf, you may glimpse a hint of bright gold! Lavender blooms dangle above the foliage on short stems in summer, but are insignificant.

Use 'Blue Mouse Ears' in containers of all sorts, as edging, in the front of the shade border, and as an accent among green- and yellow-leafed plants. It tolerates partial to full shade, and does not like direct sun.

Unequaled for their beautiful foliage, low care, and many landscape uses. Hosta provide bright color in the shade with handsome, broad, ribbed foliage in many colors. Very showy from early spring until late fall. Excellent for shade, sun or partial shade....they don't need dividing. Grown even in moist locations. Plant 18" apart. They take about 1 year to establish themselves.

Bulbs and perennials is where I make the most money, because year after year, except in the case of biennials such as foxglove (beautiful) and even back hollyhocks, but both have seeds, even if the conditions are right to go. I suggest a good book... If you do, save them to flower seed heads (the flower) and if it is completely dry the seeds in an envelope labeled for the year next planting season. Ich 2x per day while the young, or whatever is the purchase of plants and their transfer into the earth to get there as I do, no seeds are growing now, bummer … I was thinking about planting seeds, keep them inside until next year. Until it get rid of the grass and weeds and add composted manure, peat, and perhaps a little bone meal and a little all-purpose fertilizer (there are all kinds of fertilizers, but it depends on what you grow is the best way to use a general... I do not want to overwhelm, if we add all new to you, but if you’re on a budget, then go to the library and check the gardening books, and especially on the propagation of plants, plants that grow the best in your area, plant care and everything... I never lived with a farm, so I’m really happy to get flowers can be found here, I have a bunch of random seeds that would eventually sprout varieties, beautiful flowers …. But I do not know how to grow until late summer. Vegetable seeds I have no problem seeding, only flowers for some reason. The first year is devoted to the construction of the plant and the second, you will get unless you buy flowers at a nursery in her second year already. I have a few sunflower seeds, and I have some growth already I wonder if those who have a seed sind. I would say that the seeds at the end of the season, but I’m not too big on seeds. I never had much luck growing flowers from seed has been, but that does not mean you have the same chance or should I say that you want flowers Unglück. I do it with Hostas also, I think a large hosta or that happened to get two or three small hostas growth in a pot and voila, you have two or three for the price of one. You can take cuttings from friends and neighbors of the plants (with their permission of course) and I’ve even been known to pinch a dead flower or an offer to turn in a store or in a greenhouse to propagate “try” to to grow the seeds. I was head over the finches eat sunflower seeds from the tip of the flower a few years ago. Of course, as I said, you can make your lights up after the freeze, except for some bulbs like Dahlias, Caladiums, calla lilies and other bulbs that are not winter hardy bulbs must take them and kept in a basement dry and cool on winter and then... But again, I’m not with flower seeds There is also (though I’m not one to date) of the system is good in all parts of the country. If they do not separate plants (and there is a large plant) are just a sharp knife and cut the middle of the mound and you immediately have two factories. You want the roots to retain moisture, do not want, but root rot in their mothers (or other plants in the coming years). You’ll want to mulch again after you next spring, however, and mulch around your mothers planted this year. Two years two years, but more often reseed themselves.
