WOW :-)
I received my 150 a little over a week ago. Bought it because I wanted to move up to HD and get out of the tape business. It did not come with an SDHC card. Bought an 8 GB to carry me over until my 16 GB cards arrive via Amazon. I am still on the learning curve on it. Especially liked the large comfortable color view eye piece. I was also amazed by the clarity of the video play back on my 48" LCD screen. Used the three cable output first, that came with the camera( Video, Lt. Rt. Audio ) Very clear video, much clearer than my trusty old Canon GL-2 It does not come with an HDMI cable. Bought one locally and tried it. Plugged one end into the HDMI out port on the camera and the other end into the HDMI port of my TV. I was blown away by how clear it was !! The video was clearer than some of the stations I view in HD. On playback, you are given a thumbnail of the first frame of each scene you shot when you turned the camera on. On...

Nothing new to add... other than I love this camera
One thing you need to keep in mind is that editing AVCCam/AVCHD is a P.I.T.A. I'm using CS4 on a 2.4 quadcore with 8gig of RAM and Vista64 and it's sluggish with frequent lockups. I'm getting Cineform ProspectHD v4 when it comes out to compensate. Vegas 8.0c and Edius works well I'm told, and FCP need to convert it to ProRes (or whatever it's called). I think Avid needs to convert it to a native codec as well. Panasonic does offer a free converter to DVCProHD on there website [Update 6/5/09... Premiere CS4 4.1 update is out, and editing is much easier. Also, Prospect v4 is out, and editing with the demo I've been trying has been a joy] That said... the camera itself is awesome. Really. I'm coming from the DVX, and this is leaps and bounds above that (which is saying something). The images I'm getting are beautiful. I'm planning on going out now on my days off to shoot just for the fun of it. I really can't add anything that hasn't been said...

High score on the "TECH", Low score on the related cost
They have been (up until I intervened) marketing this battery as a 7.2V 5800mAh Panasonic battery which according to Panasonics web site is the VW-VBG6PP-K The two that I purchased ( 2 seperate purchases, caught it on the second one) are both 7.2V 5400mAh Panasonic battery which according to Panasonics web site is the VW-VBG6. (There are other web sites doing the same thing) The box my second one arrived in is production labelled VW-VBG6 as shown in the product images above. The white label on the back (probably applied later) shows the other model VW-VBG6PP-K. The actual battery contained within is the VW-VBG6 7.2V 5400mAh battery as shown in the above battery label image above. The actual cost of this battery concides with Panasonics pricing. I feel that the price for either battery is a bit extreme considering there are no other options. I also agree that this should be the battery included with the camera, in my case the...

Best camera for the price!!
It was a long wait but finally got it last week and then took it for a trip right away, its performance it's outstanding, I got this camera for a TV show we are producing, after seeing a few options we decided to get this one because of several reasons: - Size, the camera is very compact, for a camera that provides broadcast quality image the size is amazingly small. - Construction, this camera has most of its body made out with metal panels, that makes it very solid and also makes it reliable, also the set up of the buttons are easy to access. - Price, there are other models in the market that could deliver a similar quality or probably a little better but the cost is at least $1k more, if you think like I do "creativity is the main ingredient for a good production", spending the extra cash doesn't really make a difference as long as you are aware of the camera's capabilities and limitations, but there is always ways to improve performance in some conditions...

Balance of power has officially shifted to AVCHD
I just met this camera last week, little brother to the HMC150. The HMC40 brings several welcome upgrades to market. I'm an intermediate producer in training with lots of self study and attended a few great workshops. After two years of shooting 1920 HD on the low end I have to say this camera impressed me. PROS: 1) MPEG-4. Shoots very good quality in a tiny light weight package. Just love it. Even has time-lapse capability which sure beats roto-ing in post for a time lapse effect. 2) You can squeeze two HMC40s in the same size carryon pelican case as the 150. 3) Start editing your shots on Mac in only 2-3 minutes without waiting for rendering. No transcoding required, no $600 P2 cards either. But you should use something faster than just class 6 SDHC media if you want to bump up the quality a little, otherwise you might get some artifacts (image problems) with fast motion and striped clothing. Same problem as any media recording slower than the camera...

Perfect!!!
This camera deserves "6 Stars" on image quality. I am a Realist when it comes to reviewing a product. First: we must consider the items price, $1995.00. In the "Professional Video Camera World", That is tantamount to saying a steal!!! I will not go into features and functions, the description of this Camera is given in detail on the product description portion of this page. Second: Size and weight, Until very recently, a Pro Video Camera came in two sizes, large and super large. The additional problem here is that the general public became used to seeing these monstrosities at events, and broadcasts. Many Video Camera Professionals still look for these monstrosities simply to appease their clients visual expectations. This is the wrong approach, we should stop breaking our backs with our equipment, and instead educate the public of the technological advances that have benefited this industry. The video quality produced by this camera will please the most discriminating...

Product Description

Overview
The Panasonic AG-HMC150 is a camcorder designed to record in high definition on standard SecureDigital (SD) and SHDC memory cards. While SD-based camcorders have been gaining ground in the consumer market, the AG-HMC150 has the ability to record AVCHD images at significantly higher bitrates. This enhancement makes the camera more efficient than comparable HD interframe codecs, such as HDV and XDCAM EX. Using H.264 as its compression algorithm, the camera can record incredibly detailed images at a fraction of the file size.

Barry Green's book should come with the camera
If you purchased an amazing new Panasonic HMC150, then this book is the place to really learn the how, why's and when's to use all of it's features. AVCHD is a great new codec, shouldn't you have an amazing walk through of all the settings and functions that this camera can shoot with? I really can't recommend it enough. Clear, well written and it has a nice spiral binder that enables the book to lay flat anywhere. Nice work Barry.

If you own the HMC-150, this book is essential
I own 2 HMC-150 cameras and shoot weddings with them. I thought I had a good grasp on how to get the best results from the cameras based on the manual, but after reading Barry's book, I learned so many things about my cameras that were not in the manual or not explained well enough in the manual for me to fully grasp. I take this book with me now and it has proven to be my cheat sheet. The scene files included on the disc are not only great to use, but also a great way to learn how to make your own. I highly recommend this book to HMC-150 camera operators.

The HMC 150 Book an essential tool for videography
I am just starting out in videography and this book has given me the essentials to make good choices. Barry Green uses a very pragmatic approach to camera operation. All of the features of the Panasonic HMC 150 are clearly explained in a very concise easy to understand manner. He clearly explains terms and functions. I have read it cover to cover, and refer back to it often. I would recommend this book to anyone who owns a camcorder. While some of what is detailed is specific to the HMC 150, there is a lot of information that is common to all camcorder operation.

Most HD camcorders may anyway also shoot in SD mode, so it will not be a problem if you still need SD. The next important feature of a professional camcorder is optical zoom. The video quality of these camcorders is a lot better than most buyer camcorders and comparable if not better to broadcast cameras. There are still less pricey SD or popular definition camcorders available but to be future proof, better consider HD. Almost all new video gears available now are in HD, from source to display. Let’s look at a good deal of of the features you have to check when you plan to buy a professional camcorder. There are also numerous buyer cameras available in the market that may be tweaked to simulate professional-type cameras.
