Quiet and powerful air purifier with no filters to replace
I have other ionic air cleaners, as well as one that requires a filter. This air purifier is quiet and due to its compact size, can be placed off the floor on a bookcase, dresser top or top shelf which makes it optimal for space-saving and placement. I don't particularly like the noise from air filters and they have a tendency to keep me up.After spending many dollars on replacement filters and new air cleaners when the filter is no longer made or easily available, this is a welcome addition with a permanent cleanable filter. I bought two of these, one for my bedroom and one for the living room. Set on low all of the time, it is great as it just sounds like a little white noise and is not noticable most of the time. The optional ionic on and off switch, night light, as well as the automated light indicating that the filter should be cleaned is a BONUS besides the low price. So far, I am enjoying cleaner air in an old dusty house with 3 cats and 2 dogs...I have...

quiet little air purifier
I brought this one recently to replace the sharper image's ionizer purifier, since I want something to shut off the ionizer -- the air has some smell from those ions.This unit has three speeds. Another switch to turn on or off the ionizer.The lowest speed can push enough air comparable to Sharper Image's high speed, without much noise. If no one talks in the room, you can still notice the sound. But if anyone talks or the TV is on, then you would not noticed the sound, even in a 8x10 room. Middle and high speed push 20-50 times more air than a Sharper Images ionizer purifiers. I wish it has a feature to push a button to boost the air flow to high speed for 15 minutes, then fall back to slowest speed...For the price of a tank of gasoline, and free shipping from Amazon, buying this is no brainer....

Gets the job done - no filters to change!
This is my 2nd air purifier - the other was a comparable model by Holmes. I learned from my first air purifier that you really have to leave it on all the time or the revolving motor will collect dust, not work as well or as quietly. If I don't want it on constantly, I just put a clean towel over the top to prevent any dust/dirt from building up.The noise level is acceptable to me, in an 8x10 room. I usually leave it on LOW, which sounds a bit like a fan on low speed, but MED is good too - it has a nice white noise effect. I only put it on HIGH if there's a bad smell or lots of dust floating around (for whatever reason). HIGH is a bit loud for my taste. This machine tends to rattle a bit as it sits on my bureau, but a small towel underneath it took care of that problem. Also, give it time to warm up when you put it on. It starts off slowly, but works at full speed within a few minutes.I have allergies and noticed a difference immediately when I got this...

Works great!
I bought this product for my son. He's eight years old and suffers from allergies. He woke up every morning sneezing, and with a stuffy nose. I was looking for an alternative to giving him allergy medication every day. We keep it on the desk, right next to his bed. It's incredibly quiet and it has helped his allergies a lot. After about a month of constant use on the medium setting, I vacuumed the filter. It was filty. I was very impressed with how much dust it pulled from the air.

The best one we've tried
Our daughter has allergies and we've tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best we've tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room.

So far, so good!
I received my item (though late, Thanks Amazon), and apparently all my research into an air cleaner has paid off. This little guy does exactly what it says and works like a charm.Here's why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat's litter box. Normally, it doesn't smell, but about the day it's time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don't want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it. I even put it in my roommate's bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its final destination. She had no clue.The model has 3 speeds, but the Whisper Mode is fine for continuous daily use. Sure, you can turn it up, and you'll hear it's low whirrrrrr, but that's to be expected.Another reason I bought it is that it IS a HEPA quality cleaner. But I don't have to buy replacement...

Great for cigarette smoke,pollen,pet hair,pollen you name it.
Let me start off by saying that I suffer from being allergic to cigarette smoke and my husband and I live in an enclosed apartment complex. This is made worse by the fact that the front door doesn't seal up against the frame and smoke from the hallway leaks into our apartment with other odors and smells. Now let me add that that my husband suffers from severe allergy's and takes medicine daily for his condition. Did I mention that we have two cats and a pug. Life was miserable in our 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment, till this little puppy showed up. It's just like the picture describes it, like a barrel, the nice feature on it is the Intellicheck, this little feature tells you when to change the filters and it's quite easy the pre filters just lay on the hepa filter and are held in place by two pieces of Velcro. I recommend this air cleaner
I have suffered from allergies all of my life, but especially the last few years, they have gotten progressively worse. Last year, I lived in an apartment over two chain smokers and was constantly congested. I started researching air purifiers because my medications weren't helping enough on their own. I ended up deciding on this unit for my living room/dining area, a Hamilton Beach 04163 for my bedroom, and another Hamilton Beach 04163 to go on the other side of my living room as well since the living room/dining area/kitchen was all together and not separated by doors and was too large an area for only one cleaner to handle efficiently. I have been very satisfied with this unit. I got it in December 2004 and it has not given me any problems. I have had to change the pre-filters a few times (you usually have to change them every three months or so) but have not yet had to change the HEPA filter. FANTASTIC and VERY QUIET...
"HONEYWELL: 18155 SilentComfort Air Purifier"First off, I'd like to say that this is the only air purifier I've ever owned so I cannot compare it fairly to others so I won't even try. But I've read dozens of reviews about the Honeywell QuietCare 17000 and noticed the main complaint is that it's not really queit at all. Well...I hope this helps.As far as the noise level goes this SilentComfort 18155 is very quiet on MED and LOW. On HIGH, right next to it, it's about as loud as our dishwasher about 30 feet away. So it's not bad at all. I can still hear the television and have normal conversations with the family without yelling.I've done some of my own studies to see how well the dust is being pulled into the machine and can see there is dust building up in the pre-filter over time. It seems to work very well. I've also noticed a difference on how fresh the air smells. My sneezing is almost down to zero, when it's running, and that tells me it's...

Perfect for people with allergies
I bought this air purifier because my infant was showing signs of allergies - sneezing, rubbing her eyes, etc. Within an hour of turning on this filter, everyone in the household stopped having sneezing fits and our baby doesn't have red, itchy eyes anymore. I'm amazed by how well it works. The unit is really quiet.The only thing I don't like about it is the size. It's huge! At a foot and a half wide it takes up a lot of space. You can't easily hide this thing next to the sofa. I'm still trying to figure out where to put it so that it isn't in the way but can still filter the air. Very satified with this product overall.

Good Air Cleaner
Nice and Quiet.The only negatives are the instructions which do not seem to match the machine.the diagrams (on Amazon too) show a large prefilter wrapped around the main filter.In fact that is not how it is set up. The small prefilter goes on the bottom of the machine. The main filter is in the top and they are accessed via different "hatches".The directions also show cleaning the outside of the HEPA filter. the reality is that the way the machine works you would need to clean the INSIDE surface of the HEPA.Otherwise works fine. My Asthma is much better.

Great Unit
I purchased this unit after doing TONS of research and upon the recommendation of a major consumer testing and reporting magazine. My first impression of the unit was that it was way too big to fit unobtrusively in my living room; however, because the air is pulled in through the front grill and discharged from the top of the unit, I was able to push the purifier up against the wall to save space.The controls are simple to use. I find there to be plenty of options for fan speed (noise control). On the lowest setting I can watch TV at normal volume levels with the unit sitting three feet from me. After leaving the room it's easy to ratchet it up to the TURBO mode which I leave it on most of the time when not using the living areas. I appreciate the indicators which tell you when the filter needs replacing, and roughly where it is at in terms of its lifespan (there are five lights to represent HEPA and pre filter status). I also appreciate the 5 year limited warranty...

Whirlpool Whispure Air 510
Let me preface this by saying my profession is industrial filtration. I sell air filters and air cleaning devices to huge manufacturers so I have broad experience in air filtration technologies. When I saw this air cleaner, I was very impressed. This is one of the few that actually has a legitimate HEPA filter. Most claim to stop "99% of allergens", which really means nothing unless they tell you the size particle and percentage it stops of that particle. The Whirlpool Whispure Air 510 has a fantastic HEPA filter. It genuinely does what it says it will do. The pre filter is pretty useless, but it will keep the pet hair out of the HEPA. If you are buying this to elimiate odor with the "carbon pre filter", you will be sadly disappointed. There is not enough carbon in the filter to stop the odor from a single dinner. Its a great buy!
Its very sturdy and well constructed, it cleans and circulates the air through out my bedroom... The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the strange smell... Maybe I'm just used to breathing dirty moldy air**Update** Okay... The strange smell has disappeared after my first day of full use so maybe it has something to do with the purifier being brand new... I highly recommend this product because its very sturdy and the base feels weighted so theres no need to worry about it moving or falling over while it oscillates! I gave my 21 inch box fan to my friend Amanda because this device blows just as much air with hardly any noise at all, its very close to being silent... and the air feels and smells clean which really makes me happy... Pays for itself in filters
Confusion in HEPA home filters is starting to rise--I was at a local home improvement shop and they had a whole selection of machines--From True HEPA to "Hepa Type" and this one is supposedly better then "Hepa Type" but not as good as True Hepa. So for those who are allergic to everything, you may be better off with what Honeywell calls a "True Hepa."For me at least, I'm doing well with this model, and I'm relieved that I no longer have to buy 70 dollar filters for my old Honeywell machine.

So far, so good -- and the oscillating is the best!
I decided to get this air cleaner after trying the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze and a larger Honeywell HEPA filter. At the time of purchase, the Sharper Image was the only one with a permanent filter. This was a big plus for me seeing as the older HEPA cleaners have 2 filters to replace, the larger one being nearly the price of the machine. This Honeywell tower has a permanent filter.There are many claims for and against the Ionic Breeze. I'm still undecided on how effective it is -- but I feel almost the same way about my large HEPA filter. I found myself running both of them to control my allergies. Although I cleaned them regularly and found dust on both, I can't say the air was particularly different. However, shortly after turning this on in the bedroom for the first time, I could smell a difference. I haven't had it long enough to say it's made a real dent in my allergies -- plus the fact that my allergies are intermittant -- but I'm pleased that I even notice it...
