Find the bells!
What a great addition to the Harvest Moon series! I think it is definitely HM at it's best, no doubt. For those new to the series, the concept is that you are a farmer-rancher who just moved to town. You are given a house, introduced to the townspeople and started a new life. Once you get to your new abode and settle into the town, your mission is to find the Harvest Goddess. Once you talk to her, the problem becomes clear: there are five bells missing and you must find them all to restore the power of nature, reviving the Goddess Tree. Along the way, Finn, a harvest sprite, will guide you. You also have the option to seek the love of bachelors and bachelorettes, provided you know just what they like. A major feature in Animal Parade which differs greatly from other HM titles are the animals. Throughout the "world" you will find and be able to befriend wild animals, if you so choose. So thats the basis of the game. I will now break up my review into parts:...

Fans will not be disappointed!
After several days playing the new harvest moon wii title, I'm not disappointed. The graphics & overall visual experience is very similar to ToT. The story is also similar in set up, with bell quests instead of rainbow recipes. There is a harvest sprite that follows you around as a little ball of light that trails after you everywhere you go. I personally found this annoying, but got used to it eventually. The sprite can be asked questions and it's easier to keep track of quests and requests from characters in this new version that in ToT. The farming is also a bit different, buying seeds in increments of one instead of nine. Energy levels are good, lasting long enough to do some planting, etc. before wearing out. There is also a hot spring right on your land, although it's the red bell quest that must be completed before it's operational. This should prove to be another wonderful game that will offer endless play time. My preschooler loves to watch & play a little, too...

The laundry is piling up.
This is my first HM game, and I am totally loving it. I have been playing every second I can for the past week. It's not unusual to sit there and find four hours have passed by. My game preferences are usually the easier games. I love this one because it's easy but at the same time challenging because of the tasks involved. There is always something to do and someone to go talk to. There are no hard battles or killings, so the game is just extremely relaxing but intensely addictive. There are so many animals roaming around, crops to harvest, people to romance etc. It's just great. I seriously don't recommend starting it if you have a project due or major chores to get done. Once you start it is very hard to stop. I'm a 40+ female and think anyone will enjoy this. I'd love to know from others how this compares to the other Harvest Moons and Rune Factory. I now want to go and try those after I've exhausted this one.

The Harvest Goddess believes that only the strength of the Harvest King can help revive the earth and bring the tree back to life. It's up to the player to help the Harvest Sprites ring the five mystical bells, summon the Harvest King, and revive the Harvest Goddess' tree and the land. Top to learn more

Decent, better than GB
This game is a definite improvement over Grand Bazaar, but it's still not up to the quality of tree of tranquility or animal parade. To summarize, you're a novice farmer tasked with uniting two feuding villages using the power of...cooking. Yeah, IDGI either, but hey, HM isn't about the plot. When you start out the game you pick from one of the two villages: Bluebell - which has a larger barn but TINY fields, so you focus more on animals. Or Konohana - which has TONS of fields, but a tiny barn so you can only keep 5 animals. Ever. Period. The barn in Konohana never expands, just the fields. And vice versa for bluebell. The towns really vary in visual appeal. Bluebell is a rustic European style town and Konohana is a feudal Japan styled town. Besides that, both have general stores, and a horse/pet store. Bluebell has the feed/livestock store and Konohana has the seed store. You can travel between both towns, but before you get the owl it takes 3+ in game hours to run between...

Some Nice Touches Can't Save It Overall.
I've been torn whether to give this game a 2 or 3 due to the disappointment this has become. Let me begin...from the beginning.Story: You coming to a town and your horse is spooked and ends up crashing. The 2 mayors from Konohama and Bluebell find you. You then proceed to choose which town to live and work in. Konohama is geared towards raising crops, while Bluebell is all about animals. I won't spoil much more, but the progress in the game is based off patching things up between the 2 towns through Cooking Contests.*Note: You can change towns from the 23rd to 31st of each season, so it's not a big deal if you don't like your initial choice*Characters: They are bland. They are very similar to ones found in Grand Bazaar. On a side not, the Harvest Goddes is back in this one. She wants you to help patch things up between the villages and whatnot. She also tells you when you've done certain things in the game, like catching 50 fish through...

Sunshine Islands VS Island of Happiness - Go for Grand Bazaar
I am a huge Natsume fan and I buy every HM game I can get my hands on. I enjoyed this game the first time I played, but I groan when I think of making use of my second file - very low replay value. It is, however, a big improvement from Island of Happiness. Island of Happiness was so boring and aggravating, I gave it to someone else just a few weeks of attempted gameplay and, now, that person I gave it to doesn't play it either. Sunshine Islands is alot more fun, less work, and a more creative storyline. There are some annoying flaws though..Pros:*You don't have to rebuild the main island from scratch as in Island of Happiness*Shipping items is made alot easier and quicker*You're not limited to using only the stylus anymore*Your field is easier to keep clear of stones and weeds*Most the bachelors/bachelorettes are on the island from the beginning*More variety in animal/pet colors and appearance*The festivals are alot more fun...

A cute game, but one that takes patience
As I'm sure most who read this review know, Harvest Moon is a series that is over a decade old and spans plenty of platforms(mostly older ones). It has a strong fanbase, but the games aren't too hard to get into for newbies. However, before I continue, those of you who like instant gratification and/or dislike repetition would do well to stay away. Basically, you start out with a plot of land that is covered with weeds, rocks and logs. Your job is to clear it out and plant crops to make money and in general improve your farm. There are four seasons with 30 days in each, and you plant crops according to the seasons, water these crops and harvest them when the time is right. But there is a lot more to the game than this! The main focus of the game is collecting sun stones to raise new islands. One of them is the Volcano Island, which allows you to mine, and another is the Animal Island in which you can feed wild animals that will collect resources for you. There's plenty to...

A big importment from Island of Happiness.
I've been a fan for the Harvest Moon series for ages. And I was very disappointed with Island of Happiness. But this game is a huge improvement. You DON'T have to use the stylus (you can use it if you want to). Very fun, new characters, old characters. It's basically a remake of IoH. So, if you hated Island of Happiness, you won't be disappointed! If you are decided if you should get this or Island of Happiness. Go for Harvest Moon : Sunshine Islands.

Resurrect the Town Bazaar
Zephyr Town's bazaar was once the grandest in the world, drawing customers and peddlers from all four corners of the Earth. Sadly, that is no longer the case. These days, the bazaar has more tumbleweeds than customers. But maybe you can turn its fortunes around. The bazaar is a weekly event in Zephyr, so raise animals, harvest crops, craft rare delicacies, and then sell your wares at your very own shop. Can you bring prosperity back to Zephyr Town?

Gameplay
Like all Harvest Moon games, Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar is a simulation game. Gameplay aspects that have made the series a favorite over the years, such as farming, animal husbandry, marriage and raising a family are all present, but the new focus that Grand Bazaar brings is an emphasis on the town marketplace. Players are tasked with helping to rebuild a once grand marketplace that has fallen on hard times. Prompted by quotas that the town mayor provides, players accumulate goods and animals, grown and raised on their farms, and a variety of special good that are created at windmills throughout the game space. These can be sold at the weekly bazaar for money that can either be saved or used to buy special items only available at the bazaar. Special manufactured good created at windmills, such as rings, can also be given to prospective mates, which may increase the chances of getting married more quickly and starting a family. Additional features include the ability to play as a boy or a girl, four-player game support and more responsive controls that allow for faster movements and a double-jump ability.

Key Game Features

There's good and there's bad
I got my copy of the game early - not sure why but I'm not exactly complaining. I was a bit put off by the release date being pushed back not once but twice - but the early shipping cheered me up a little.I've played pretty much all the HM games since the n64, and as sad as that is, I figured I would put this here for other fans of the series that were looking into this game.Pros:-Graphics are A+ for a DS game, seriously.-Love the art style.-You start out with a barn built and you don't have to clear your field. One of my biggest gripes about some of the other games was that they'd kinda throw you into it with 3 bags of turnips and you had to scrimp and save until you got a barn. Then scrimp and save until you got a chicken, etc.-You also start out with storage/cold storage to put your things in, but this also leads to a slight con.-YOU START WITH A KITCHEN. WHile you have to buy some of the stuff to go in it, no more waiting until...

Game has it's fun moments
Overall I'd have to agree pretty much with the other review. The game is not a bad game but if you're used to previous HM games for the DS it's not the best. If you'd like a more relaxing HM game, then this is it.I like the fact that they have made the watering of the plants so much less complex. Basically you fertilize your plants then water them every day (sometimes twice a day) unless it rains. It's not as complex as the other HM games where you have to worry about the amount of sun and amount of watering to get your plants to grow. The aspects of the bazaar make it fun although it's pretty slow during the week until the bazaar comes at the end of the week.I'm one that enjoyed the mining in the last games and I'm disappointed that there is not mining in this one (at least not yet...have already been through 1 year of the game and no mining). Winter is pretty boring without mining and the rivers are frozen so you can't fish, and you can't grow any crops...

completely agree with cisforcorgi
cisforcorgi pretty much said it all. lots of great new easy controls but it's a very low key, play after work/school/life kinda game.LOVE- slow, easy pace.- you already have a storage room, barn, and kitchen so no more scrimping for 5 real life years to afford these upgrades!- entirely new cast (lots of twins for some reason?)- bazaar play is fun- the animation is much more detailed- easy ways to track your friends, recipes, animals, etcHATE- you can only save at bed. i find myself going to be a lot at 10:30am...- not a whole lot to do during the day in the beginning since you only have one small field and not so much money and a handful of the characters leave to work in the city.- hard to find time to shop at the bazaar due to sales goals.i love this series and this game, i've been playing it pretty much non stop in my free time since i got it. not for the action/adventure types, but still lots...

Well worth the wait
I am a huge fan of the Harvest Moon games and have been since the PS1 version came out. It was rather frustrating when they kept postponing the release for the Tree of Tranquility, but the end product was definitely worth waiting for.The storyline is great so far. You have to think a bit about what they want you to do next. It is definitely more challenging than the Magical Melodies version on the Gamecube, a definite plus, in my opinion.I really liked the beginning, a longer story to start you off in your new home on the island. Yes, it is true that you get tired very easily in the beginning of the game, but I look at it as a challenge rather than a frustration. Once you start to save a bit of money up, and you can start improving your tools, your energy will last much longer. You don't want the game to be too easy or your first run through will be over too fast! One nice thing about the early part of the game is that, even if you are tired from...

So far so good! *Major Glitch Update*
*Update. There is a very bad game killing glitch in regards to female players courting Calvin. If you're playing as the girl character, the game will freeze when you trigger Calvin's "five heart" event, which is his "request" event. This happens on the 10th floor of the mines. While looking at the mural Calvin freezes halfway through his speech, the game hard-locks and requires a system reset. This happened to me personally and I am not happy about it one bit. This is a major issue that now prevents me from going past the 10th floor in the mine unless I fall through a crack in the floor. I would drop my rating of the game to 3 1/2 stars just for the fact that I now have to work on lowering Calvins heart level so I can access the mines normally...what a pain. :(*Well, I will start off with the fact that I am very pleased with the controls in this game. The Wii remote is utilized in such a way that it works perfectly. You can use your buttons or swing your remote...

Pretty fantastic
All in all, this is a pretty fantastic iteration of Harvest Moon. It combines the more dramatic, realistic setting and graphics of A Wonderful Life with the more childlike and cutesy feeling of Magical Melody and Harvest Moon 64 (still my gold standard after all these years). I haven't played it a whole lot yet (I just got it last night, after all) but I can tell it's going to get plenty of play at my house.I already love the look of the game. It's pretty to look at, prettier than Magical Melody, though not as realistic and striking as A Wonderful Life (it's close, though). One of the first things that struck me was how bright and colorful it is. The flowers in particular are very well designed and richly colored (check out the interior of Souflee Farm to see what I mean). The detail on everything is very nice so far. The crops I've seen have been well rendered and the trees and plants and rocks are very realistic and obviously a lot of thought and effort was put...

Nothing revolutionary, but still very good
Okay, with my day off today I feel like I've had this game long enough to write a fair review. This game is pretty standard for a rune factory game, but they've improved on some things that make it more beginner-friendly than the other RF/HM games.Pros:-There's a tutorial at the beginning that's fairly detailed. For new players who have never played this game before, it's very helpful. For me it was a lot of hitting A over and over to speed it up, but I'm sure anyone who doesn't know the actual goal of the RF games will really need the help.-The graphics are very, very good for a DS game. The character sprites are meh, but the backgrounds and scenery are awesome.-You start with a fridge and a tool box to store things.-The characters are all so adorable. I think this is the first HM/RF game where I'm not sure who I want my character to marry because they all are so great.-The NPCs have more dynamic schedules which makes them seem more...

THIS IS A MUST BUY!
I've played RF1 and 2. Three takes it to a whole new level. The game play is much faster and takes a bit of work to get used to. Once you do, however, you will disappear into the game and may not come out again until you finish.(Bit of a spoiler) - the game begins with a golden monster woolie appearing at a doorstep and a young woman taking it in to to a bedroom to dry off and rest. She leaves and a young man appears in the woolie's place, (of course his memory is erased - this IS RF after all!) He runs off and shows up in the town where he is given a place to live and is warned against "monsters" which live all around the town and also given tools to grow crops.Pros: the townpeople are very interactive. They move, they converse with other people (instead of standing in one place all the time as in RF1/RF2). Of course, it IS a bit of a pain when you are looking for one particular person. The quests are more involved than RF1/RF2 too. Sometimes you can...
