Three Harry Potter Books in Three Days!
An adult friend (age 49)loaned me three Harry Potter books for the summer. Wednesday evening I began the first book and I finished the third today, Saturday morning. I am writing this review before I order the fourth Potter book. Will my friend be surprised to get 4 books back! The author's imagination is vividly presented in a cast of almost believable characters attending a school we all wish we could attend. Classes like "Defense Against Dark Arts", "Divination", "Transfiguration", "Arithmancy" and "Care of Magical Creatures" are written as if the author actually attended them and certainly enjoyed every minute of class. More than can be said for most of the classes I have attended. Each book in the series encompasses one year of Harry's fascinating life. The Potter books are written in a way that can charm any age reader. I am 64.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter has lived a dismal life with his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. He sleeps in a closet and has never had a birthday party or Christmas presents. Even worse, he has to endure life with his horrible spoiled cousin, Dudley. Then on Harry's eleventh birthday, things change when a letter arrives, (by owl), inviting him to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Suddenly Harry finds himself among friends, learning about potion-making and magic-wand waving and broomstick riding. There're chocolate frogs and Every Flavor Beans and a three-headed dog and Quidditch-a game better than soccer. Also, Hagrid, a lovable gamekeeper who befriends Harry; Hermione Granger, a witch who's read all the school books and knows all the rules; and there's Ron Weasly, Harry's best friend who has quite a legacy of his own to fill. Hogwarts treats him well, even with the abomidable Malfoy's mean tricks or Professor Snape's obvious hatred of Harry. The soon Harry finds himself...

Product Description

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry, an orphan, lives with the Dursleys, his horrible aunt and uncle, and their abominable son, Dudley. One day just before his eleventh birthday, an owl tries to deliver a mysterious letter—the first of a sequence of events that end in Harry meeting a giant man named Hagrid. Hagrid explains Harry's history to him: When he was a baby, the Dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, attacked and killed his parents in an attempt to kill Harry; but the only mark on Harry was a mysterious lightning-bolt scar on his forehead. Now he has been invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the headmaster is the great wizard Albus Dumbledore. Harry visits Diagon Alley to get his school supplies, especially his very own wand. To get to school, he takes the Hogwarts Express from platform nine and three-quarters at King's Cross Station. On the train, he meets two fellow students who will become his closest friends: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry is assigned to Gryffindor House at Hogwarts, and soon becomes the youngest-ever Seeker on the House Quidditch team. He also studies Potions with Professor Severus Snape, who displays a deep and abiding dislike for Harry, and Defense Against the Dark Arts with nervous Professor Quirrell; he and his friends defeat a mountain troll, help Hagrid raise a dragon, and explore the wonderful, fascinating world of Hogwarts. But all events lead irrevocably toward a second encounter with Lord Voldemort, who seeks an object of legend known as the Sorcerer's Stone… Top to learn more

Our first foray into Potter's world is truly magical!
With this introductory novel was published in 1997, few would have predicted the unprecedented success this series would produce. And everything that made Harry Potter so successful is all first shown, though hardly fully explained, in this book, HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSPHER'S STONE.The novel opens with Harry living under the cupboard with his abusive aunt and uncle. He has had a mean, depressed life, and though an active boy, the sheer amount of trauma he must have endured would scar any child. But the door opens out of this lifestyle. I've read an interesting theory (obviously not true), that a much different writer than Rowling would have ended Book 7 with Harry having imagined all this fantasy world, where he was so prominent and famous, to help escape the neglect and abuse from the Dursleys. He gets a letter (actually, hundreds) saying he is in fact a wizard. So he is enrolled the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Him, along with his new...

The amazing popularity of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone means that now even Muggles know about the Leaky Cauldron, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Whether or not you've read about Harry, this unabridged audiobook brings his world to life. Reader Jim Dale brings an excellent range of voices to the characters, from well-meaning Hermione's soft, earnest voice to Malfoy's nasal droning; from Professor McGonagall's crisp brogue to Hagrid's broad Somerset accent; and from snarling Mr. Filch to p-p-poor, st-tuttering P-Professor Quirrel. Some of the characterizations are peculiar--why do the centaurs have Welsh accents?--but that's a small price to pay to hear one of the myriad ways to sing the Hogwarts School song. Harry Potter fans of all ages--Muggle or not--will enjoy curling up with a few chocolate frogs, a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans ("Alas! Ear wax!"), and this marvelous, magical audiobook. A Great Companion to the Original HP2 book
This book is quite good. I do enjoy Davis' book about the Sorcerer's Stone more, perhaps it is because I enjoy reading the 1st Harry Potter book more than the second one. You can tell from his writing that Davis is a very knowledgeable author and a true Harry Potter fan. Here is an excerpt from this book I happen to have high-lighted (I believe it is from Chapter 16, The Chamber of Secrets):"Outcomes of actions influence our assessment of the rightness of those actions. Harry and Ron cover themselves in glory, so we approve their actions. Had they died we would have seen their actions as foolish. There is a very thin line between bravery and stupidity, and as Harry and Ron enter the Chamber of Secrets it is uncertain which side of the line they are on."I really hope there will be more "Re-read Harry Potter" books in the future (for HP volumes 3-7). Or at least a book/commentary on the Deathly Hallows. There is so much to cover. I have purchased a...

Deserves a MUCH better review.
This book is wonderful! It`s a brilliant and insightful take on a well-known classic. And while it does "nit pick harry potter", it also does so much more . I thouroughly enjoyed reading this along with Harry Potter. There are a few grammatical errors, so I suggest you get the real version. Thanks for the epic weekend, Graeme Davis!

Very Insightful
This book is a literary criticism/analysis of J.K. Rowlings first Harry Potter book. I enjoy reading literary criticism and I really enjoy reading the first Harry Potter book, so for me this book is a perfect fit.The writing in this book is on par with writings you find in the Economist magazine (or even the New Yorker, but not as long winded). The author definitely knows a lot. He goes into JK Rowling's book "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" chapter by chapter and really digs deep. I'm not much of a writer or a critic, so I'll just post some of the things I had highlighted on my kindle for this book:"The Boy Who Lived is the fairy tale staple of the child who is almost killed but instead hidden away - King Arthur for example - or the Biblical type of Moses, consigned to death on the Nile but saved by Pharaoh's daughter. Dumbledore with his wisdom and enormously long beard and hair is presented almost as an Old Testament prophet. Like King Arthur or Snow...

Unfairly Reviewed Commentary on Harry Potter
I bought this book because I've been looking for a good analysis of the Harry Potter books for a while now. I'm not done yet, but when I am, I'll update this review is my thoughts. So far, I don't think it will get as deep as I was hoping for. But still, it has been enjoyable.I was disheartened to see so many reviewers posting negative reviews of this book though. Mostly giving it one stars because they didn't realize this is not Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. This is Re-read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Today by Graeme Davis. The Harry Potter series has NEVER been available in ebook form. On purpose. J.K. Rowling herself said in 2005 that she didn't want to have ebook versions of her books because of piracy issues.Only with the announcement of Pottermore last summer (Jun 2011) did she announce there will be ebook versions available for the first time.So please, stop giving this book bad reviews...

Beautiful score! Borderline intermediate! Buy it! :)
This is so fun to play and the heart wrenching tunes are so beautiful. Its very different from the usual pieces I play so I gravitate toward this book quite a bit. The themes are carried through the book in a very elegant way so there is definite repetition, but always coming from a different angle. I would probably consider this book to be borderline intermediate.Obliviate: Key of C- repetitive left hand, simple one note in right hand; middle to end of piece more sweeping with some accidentals and longer stretches.Snape to Malfoy Manor- Key of C- repetitive left hand through out entire piece; right hand somewhat repetitive with triplets and accidentals. A slightly more difficult piece than the previous, but once you figure it out it's one of the most fun to play.Polyjuice Potion- Key of D- This I thought was the most difficult piece in the book along with Ron's Speech. Many accidentals and naturals, larger sweeping motions, ties and slurs, and arpeggiated...

Buy Harry Potter Ebook

In order to set up a linked account, please go to ‘My books’, select one of your Harry Potter eBooks to download and choose your reading service. Instead, they’re watermarked (or, as Pottermore kindly describes it, “personalized”): “The Pottermore Shop personalises eBooks with a combination of watermarking techniques that relate to the book, to the purchaser and the purchase time. If you want to share your Harry Potter eBook with your own children, that’s absolutely fine with us too, so long as they are under 18. The e-books and digital audiobooks are only available in U. S. and UK English for now, but “French, German, Spanish and Italian language eBooks will be available soon, and many further languages will follow. eBooks purchased from the Pottermore Shop can be downloaded for your personal use up to eight times, at no additional cost. Watermarking is often floated as a good possible alternative to DRM — one that allows users easy access to the books they bought without wanting to share them — but it hasn’t been used much in trade books before now. Amazon also has an FAQ for how to get the Harry Potter e-books onto your Kindle. The site notes users can download the e-books they buy for personal use up to eight times:. However, if you do download a book more than eight times, or want to buy it as a gift, you will need to purchase it again. You might want to download a copy to your laptop, your tablet, and your child’s eReader – whatever the combination – you have eight available downloads per book. UK book trade publication The Bookseller confirms that e-book retailers will eventually receive affiliate fees.

The Harry Potter ebooks can also be bought through other retailers. Think about it, you can literally take the whole Harry Potter series to wherever you go without even realising it. The Pottermore website was created by J. K. Rowling as a place for fans to gather and be kept up to date on the latest Potter news... Currently, fans are able to buy the ebooks in English, however editions in German, Spanish, Italian and French are coming. There are plenty of advantages of buying the Harry Potter series as an e-book. K Rowling’s Pottermore website launched it’s new bookstore feature last week, which holds the digital and audiobook version of the seven book Harry Potter series. It would be very hard to find a device that is not able to download the Harry Potter e-books. The e-books allow this incredible story to be accessible to the tech-savvy generation and enables the Harry Potter phenomenon to continue on for a very long time.

• I am having a fierce debate with myself whether it's worth buying the ebooks, paying again for something I've already paid for. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' e-books are finally available on Pottermore. but it might be kinda nice -- and a sweet gesture to fans -- if there was some way of giving some sort of discount to the fans who've supported Rowling from the beginning, or close to. Maybe a credit if you can demonstrate you donated your print... Women cannot ever, ever win. • Educated: I don't think it means what they think it means.

Instead of buying the ebooks through the Amazon e-commerce system, the buy link takes the customer off to Pottermore to complete the purchase, with the content seamlessly delivered to their Kindle device. What’s more, when you buy Harry Potter via that Amazon link for your Kindle, you buy a copy that you’ll be able to read on any company’s e-reader, and it costs just $7. Amazon gets something like an affiliates’ fee from this transaction, much less than it would expect to receive selling an ebook through normal conditions. In bringing these books to the digital marketplace, Pottermore, the business created to sell the ebooks, has forced Amazon into perhaps the biggest climbdown in its corporate history. Such is Rowling’s market power that even Amazon, which dominates the ebook industry, is going along with her plan, and so has Barnes & Noble (Apple has not). I’ve never understood quite why, in a digital age that allows companies to sell directly to their customers, that book publishers, record labels, writers, and artists have allowed third parties like Amazon and Apple to seize outsize control of... The one-time billionaire has long resisted selling e-books of her Harry Potter series. Typically when you buy a book through Kindle you’re stuck on the Kindle. But if you buy a recurring subscription through Newsstand, Apple gets a 30 percent cut of every transaction in perpetuity&mdash. Search Amazon for Harry Potter on the Kindle and you get this result:.
