I graduated to the best
For a few years now, I have been running a small business repairing electronic pinball machines. A digital meter is essential for checking the various components, voltages and circuits. I was using a less expensive Craftsman meter that worked fine for me but wanted something smaller. I tried another Craftsman, but it just did not make me feel confident in its readings. So I bit the bullet to purchase this "over $100" unit and have no regrets. The feel of this meter was just right in my hand. The readings felt much more solid/consistent. For example, the window not only shows a number, but a scaling line which made comparing voltages quicker. I already had some experience with the various settings, but using this meter made it exciting to explore some of the other settings that I never used. I feel like I am advancing my skill set which is always a satisfying experience. There also seems to be a little sense of pride when using a more professional...

easy, accurate, durable, : Fluke ...
I'm not married to any particular brand of meter, but every time I trust Fluke I am pleased. This meter looks cool. It feels right in the hand. It is incredibly simple to use, and very accurate. I pitted this meter against reference standard equipment, and the unit was dead on on everything. It's a pleasure to pull something out of the box, and have it be dead nuts on every time. I might have gotten an exceptional sample, but the unit I own is very accurate. This meter is a general electrical testing device. It is a logical alternative wherever a general purpose portable meter would be used. I like the white back light, and the yellow holster. The labeling makes good common sense. The meter is well protected against overloads. In case you forget to turn the dial to 'A', and then feed current into the meter, or you do switch the dial to 'A', but forget to switch the lead to amps, the meter tells you.

Yep, this one is a keeper
I too, replaced several old Craftsman meters with this one. I should have gone with Fluke several years ago: Accurate, simple, and 'does everything". The DC ma range can handle all the way from 200ma to 1A, while most can't handle above 200ma which is a range I need. This is the one to own.

A plumbers review
As a plumber who encounters electricity on occasion, especially with some relaxing of the electrical code, i want a tool I can trust and I know Fluke is a trusted name. This does what I need it to not any more and not any less. with some of my ignorance in electricity, however; i was under the impression that I would be able to use the clamp around say a line to a waterheater and i would be able to tell if it was still hot but i now know you can only clamp a single positive or negative wire because both together will cancel out and read zero.

With the easy-to-read backlight and the inrush feature, plus a comfortable ergonomic shape, this meter is made to impress. Top to learn more

Similar product to FLUKE T5
Seldom does a company make 2 products that do almost the exact same thing, but Fluke's low end ampclamp (the 322) is almost a duplicate of the high-end digital amp-probe (T5) . Here are the big differences. The 322 can handle BIG conductors and big currents (400A AC). The T5 maxes out somewhere around 3/0 copper wire and 100 A AC. The T5 has a bright red light to warn you when high voltages are present - the 322 warns you with an icon in the LCD display. The T5 comes in 600 and 1000 V versions, but the 322 is limited to 600 V. The 322 works like the traditional amp-clamp. The T5 is best described as an "amp-FORK" because the opening is permanent and doesn't need to be closed to make an accurate measurement. The T5 "FORK" will accept a 1/2" diameter conductor...

perfect for my job
this is my second Fluke 322, my first being stolen on a job site, well thats construction. the 322 are rugged and very reliable, they are not True RMS, but for simple motor troubleshooting they are an affordable substitute. i've used the clamp on some pretty big 300 amp motors and have never had the glitch on me and have turned around and tested small voltages with no problems. its that kind of flexibilty i like about the fluke 322.

Great Multimeter for Troubleshooting Wiring Problems
I had this Fluke 114 multimeter for over 1 ½ years now and it has become my most used multimeter (even though it is also my least expensive multimeter). This multimeter has all the functions needed to troubleshoot electric wiring problems on buildings, ships, and airplanes and has the important AUTO-V LoZ function that many higher-priced Fluke multifunction multimeters lack. The AUTO-V LoZ function eliminates false readings that can severely hinder troubleshooting efforts. The normal multimeter volt functions have a high impedance input that makes it too sensitive for troubleshooting wiring faults. An open-ended wire under test that is near other powered wires will pick up the electromagnetic force fields from the other wires and show a false "ghost" voltage on the wire under test. The low impedance input of the AUTO-V LoZ function will eliminate the measuring of these false voltages. The Fluke 114 has the AUTO-V LoZ function and also has the normal high impedance volt...

Great Meter
The box say's this is a Electrician's Combo kit. I'm no electrician but the features I was looking for was on the fluke 117 and for a few more dollors I opt. for this kit. I had a cheap meter and it blew up after I used it to test an outlet as I did so many times before. I'm a D.I.Y. and I wanted a well built meter and this kit is well built. The 117 is heavy'er than my last one plus it has a stand and a magnetic hanging strap. The leads are alot heavy'er than my last. The 117 is calibrated to meet ISO 9001 and is certified. I asked a co-worker about the clamp meter and got to see how both meters work together. "For those who, like me wanting to know why you needed two meters" and also when I got this I thought I was getting two sets of leads one for each meter but I WAS WRONG I got only one set and now I know why. You use the 117 to test the volts and the clamp meter to test the amps at one time. You clamp a wire and set it for amps and thats it no need for leads. That is cool in my...

Fluke 117/322 Review.
I love this Multimeter. I can use this meter to check for power or even if there is a power line behind a wall. That way I don't put a nail through it. The safety aspect is just wonderful. I use this around the house and also use it to help trouble shoot electronics that are in need of repair. The Clamp meter is wonderful for General usage and can tell you the load in Amps. Just clamp the meter on to the hot wire going to the circuit breaker and you have your load in Amps. I do wish the clamp meter was lighted like the multimeter is. Absolutely Top-Quality
First, Fluke itself: Fluke makes best-quality meters. In fact, they are overwhelmingly regarded as the best meters available. That's not to say there aren't other very good brands (e.g., Agilent, Hioki), or that 2nd tier brands (e.g., Extech, Meterman) don't have their place - they do. But Fluke meters in general offer the combination of best specifications, best build, and best protection (for you as well as the meter). The thing is, you will pay top dollar. The 87 is a very tough meter in very widespread use in the field. The 80 series meters, like the 70 series that preceeded them, have a reputation for holding their accuracy and lasting for decades. They are well-fused and well-shielded, tightly-sealed, and stories of Fluke meters surviving falls, high voltages and currents, weather, and a myriad of other challenges are legion. Look carefully at specs and responsiveness. The 87 is exceptionally responsive. Continuity detection, for example, is...

don't waste your money on Cheap meters!
I have been in the RV repair industry for a long time and one thing is for sure, I cannot do my job without a top quality meter. I have in the past bought Snap-On, Mac, Matco, ect, but have never been as pleased with a meter as I have with this one. Beyond the normal functions of a meter, I love this one for its temp probe, no more are the days of carrying a therometer to take readings inside fride, a/c/ unit, all I do is plug it into the meter put the probe inside and shut the door within 30 seconds I have a very accurate reading. But probably the most important thing about this merter is the "true RMS" readings I get, this is very important when working with power converters and inverters..This meter is very well protected also with fuses (fuses are pricey though) have not blown one yet but I would recommend purchasing a set to keep on hand.

Nearly perfect multimeter
The 87 has evolved little since 1989 yet it remains a preferred and widely used meter for professional electric and electronic work, over 20 years later. Its very rare to have any design in production for decades yet still command a top price despite competition from cheaper work a like multimeters. The 87 look, feel and functionality, remains often copied even today. While the 87 has changed backlighting, added 20,000 count precision, increased LCD annunciators, louder beeps, new button colors etc., it didn't markedly improve overall accuracy, reliability, build quality, safety, and ease of maintenance that gave the whole 80 series its reputation. You can still find 1-4 80 series meters on eBay commanding top prices [often as much or more than similar functioned new non-Fluke DMMs ] and often need just cleaning, to look near new. I own a 20+ year old 85I, a 10 year old 85III and a 3 year old 87V. None of these has been adjusted since its original calibration and a...

The Fluke records Min/Max/Average and has a Min/Max alert that automatically captures variations. The Relative mode removes test lead interference from low-ohms measurements.

Easy-Read Display and Safe, Durable Design
The Fluke 87-5 comes equipped with a large, backlit display that shows easy-read digits. An improved selectable sleep mode helps increase the life of the battery, while an access door makes for fast battery changes without breaking the calibration seal.

The Fluke 87-5 is also safe--it's independently tested to comply with the second edition of ANSI/ISA S82.01 and EN61010-1. Also, CAT IV 600V/CAT III 1000V rated, this handy meter can withstand impulses in excess of 8,000 volts and can reduce risks related to surges and spikes. Additionally, its tightly sealed design helps protect against damage, even when the unit is dropped.

Recommended by Fine Homebuilding magazine, July 2005
I originally bought this model based on the recommendation in the July 2005 issue of Fine Homebuilding magazine, listed as a "dependable tester." I've had difficulty with multimeters in the past, but never with a Fluke brand multimeter. I've droped Flukes down ladders, on concrete, and they still work like a champ. They work so well and are so trusted, it's the only brand of test equipment that the U.S. military does NOT require to have regular calibrations (though Fluke does recommend an annual calibration.) Pros: - The best feature (for me) is that the test lead can be plugged into the back of the unit and used like a big handle. This means that you can hold the Fluke in one hand with the hot lead sticking out the "jaw" end while your other hand holds the other lead in place. No more trying to find a place for the meter to sit. - "Slim Reach" probe tips (4mm) are flattened to allow tips to be easily inserted into outlets. Still...

Well worth the cost
This tester does everything I need and so far (6 mo), has stood up to whatever kind of abuse I've able to throw at it. As the previous reviewer mentioned, one of its best features is that you can lock one of the probes into the back of the meter and use the whole thing as a kind of big probe -- no problems with finding where to set the meter or where to look for the reading. Only improvement I could think of would be a light for the LCD panel. Simple controls, solid construction, and looks like it was designed by someone who has actually tried to use a meter while on top of a step ladder. Well worth the extra $$.

great tester
This tester is great. Enough to do many jobs in your houses. The automatic selector of voltage is one advantage to non professional people. The open clamp is great but if you want to measure more than 100 amps you'll have to buy another one ( see Fluke 322 ) You must be carefull with the teast leads, they are really sharp.I really recommend to buy with the T5, the starter kit.

Seldom does a company make 2 products that do almost the exact same thing, but Fluke's low end ampclamp (the 322) is almost a duplicate of the high-end digital amp-probe (T5) Fluke T5-1000USA,Electic Tester 1000V,Continuity,. The T5 automatically switches AC or DC voltage depending on what it sees comming in and indicates it in the display as AC or DC. The 322 has a dial setting for AC or DC voltage and you must tell it which you want to measure. The T5's probes are PERMANENTLY attached to the meter so they never get "borrowed". Both have a hold button - very helpful when you dig for a wire and once found you can't see the display - just press hold, get your meter back and read it later. Input impedance of the meter is 1. If you have a complex signal (AC+DC) ONLY the 322 can tell you about each part - the T5 will just pick one, usually the AC, unless the voltage is stable like from a battery or DC supply. The T5 comes in 600 and 1000 V versions, but the 322 is limited to 600 V. The 322 works like the traditional amp-clamp. The T5-1000 can go to 1000 volts AC / DC, but the 322 stops at 600V.
