Great toy!
My daughter got this for her birthday (3 years old). Even though she is not old enough yet to really count the money she has had a blast "ringing things up" on the scanner and paying with the credit card. She also really likes the coin slot. When she puts the money in it tells her what the coin was. She has done this over and over again. She is also having fun going around the house collecting items in her shopping cart and then ringing them up.I can see this being a toy she will play with for many years. It has math games that seem like they will be fun and educational. Very nice, oh, and my dad observed that the coin slot works with real coins too!The negatives... The drawer shoots out quickly and the plastic coins tend to slosh out. Also the weighing tray comes off easily. I'm going to put that away till my daughter gets a little older.Overall- a great toy!

Fun and Learning
Bought this for my 5 year old. Both he and my 7 year old have enjoyed playing with it. They especially like the silly things it does, like sometimes telling them their credit card has been declined, etc. Seems well constructed and has some good learning games, too.

Best toy register I've seen!
I got this cash register for my daughter when she started learning about money at school. She is 8 now and still loves playing "store" with her 5 yr. old brother. We've had it well over a year and haven't even had to replace batteries yet. It is durable and fun. The electronic voice is very easy to understand and all the buttons function as they should. I highly recommend this toy.

An educational, fun toy that grows with the child!
We first bought this toy as a birthday gift, because our 4 year old was so fascinated with pushing the buttons to open the cash drawer. He liked the play coins that came with it, too.Over the last 5 years, it has suited his needs as he's grown. First it was a play-alone toy, fun for long stretches of time. Later, it evolved into part of a grocery store game played with friends. Over the last two years, it has been an educational tool for us to use, as he learns to add and subtract and make change, something he is also doing at school. It comes with a credit card - we haven't had to use it yet (not as much educational value for a credit card in this set up, since you can't really explain the perils of interest rates)!When friends come over, it is still a popular toy to pull out and play with. You can replace the coins (which seem to disappear) with less realistic, but inexpensive, coins you can find at any dollar store - or use real money!An excellent toy that will...

The excellent reviews I read before buying this cash register did not mention that it is solar powered, and I believe this fact is worth adding for those frugally and/or environmentally-minded potential buyers. It worked right out of the box -- no time delay for charging.

Super buy on an educational and entertaining product
This item was used in my Sunday School classroom ages (4-7) earlier this year. Okay, so you are probably wondering in what application did I use this for in a Sunday School room? A: Matthew and Zacchaeus, the tax collectors.Due to its popularity, I decided it was in my best interest to purchase a duplicate so that ten children would not be crowding around one register. The register was never not in use during the entire class time (1 hour and 15 minutes) except when I pulled them away for story time. Suffice it to say that it was a major hit.It has been my experience that the special traits that make it a favorite with the children are: 1. Calculator features (the children who are familiar with numbers were thrilled that they could use it for real life addition and subtraction transactions). 2. Can you spell "major pain in the butt"
The register works well and seems to be a well made register. Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about the owners instruction manual. I had to get our I.T. department to figure out how to set the thing up.....and 2 of them spent 4 hours getting it to work the way we wanted it too. I should clarify our intended use was to fully access and operate the more complicated functions this register can and does perform (part, dept. expense codes, etc.).....not just simple operations.This really came as a surprise to me, because we've used other Casio products in the past and they are usually easier to operate....and understand the manual.I would recommend it only to someone who wants to spend lots and lots of time figuring out how to make it work. I suspect there are far easier units available that aren't as hard to operate!!!

Talking Cash Register
This is a pretty cool toy. Comes with play money (coins and bills), credit card and bar-code stickers. Pros: The ability to scan the credit card through the slot seems to be the most fun. Each time you scan it the cash register calls out a dollar amount. Opening and closing the register was also a big hit. Cons: The microphone cord is way to short. You must by face-to-face with the register to use the microphone; nevertheless, this feature is fun. The bar-codes, which are meant to stick onto various items, don't scan so well. Overall, this product is very enjoyable; maybe on the pricey side @ $39+, but still fun.

WOW, this ONE does it all
This is the BEST. This register my uncle gave me is the best ever. It has everything. It talks to me. It has a real scanner and it really does work on the bar codes that come with my register. And it says the price out loud on the speaker too. And it has a microphone that is loud and works great. I love to say "price check" in the microphone. Plus, it has lots of money and coins and a credit card slot that talks to me too. This is the BEST register that Toys R Us sells because it has EVERYTHING!!!!!

I was a little leery about buying this because of the reviews but I am happy with it so far. The 2 and 4 year old both like and can play with it. The on/off button is a different color so they easily learned how to turn it on and off without help. The scanner is easy to pick up and hold and we haven't had trouble with the length of its cord. The microphone amplifies nicely and does not distort the kids' voices too much.The scanner is reasonably easy to use but it's not totally clear what to expect from it. You are supposed to line up little arrows on the stickers with arrows on the scanner, suggesting that each barcode sticker is supposed to give a specific readout, but we've found that a given barcode will produce different "readouts" on successive scans. It's not a problem for us: the kids are just happy to get a response from the machine. But I could see how with older kids they might find that annoying. I would have liked more specific instructions about what to expect...

Bought this for our small retail store. Seems like it will work just fine - the set up was a little confusing, but not too bad - just have to read very carefully and try and follow the steps in the manual. Manual isn't that great - will get you through the basics though. Probably the most confusing thing is the tax codes - so confusing that on the Casio comment card that comes in the package - they have a specific question about the ease and understanding of the tax codes!Took about 2 hours to get things all set up including cashier names/numbers, One PLU code as a test, department names. Once you go through and it works once, it's pretty easy to do things.Will stop back after we use it for awhile to offer more info about it in production.LT
