A Must Have for Moms Looking to Send Their Kids to a Private School in LA
Last year when I was applying to private schools for my son, I followed Beyond the Brochure to a "T". It worked fantastically - my son was accepted into 2 of the 3 private schools we applied to. I don't think that would have been the case if I hadn't followed the author's directions. She provides excellent tips, advice and suggestions for getting into the private school you select for your children. I can't recommend this book enough if you are feeling overwhelmed about starting the process of applying to private schools in LA.

Priceless!
My husband and I just relocated to Los Angeles from the East Coast and had to quickly think about a good school for our daughter. We were definitely coming in at a disadvantage because we knew NOTHING about LA Private schools and most of the families we knew were already collecting data about each school. YIKES!! I happen to do a Google search and found this book. Immediately, I thought that it would at least give me some info on the process. Once I got it, I ended up taking it to a friend's house and we read it together and tried the sample test questions with our kids. Then, I had the opportunity to hear the authors, Porcha and Christina speak at an evening event in Beverly Hills. It was amazing and they offered SO much good info. We have already applied to several schools and went into the process feeling confident and well informed. This book ROCKS!

no major epiphanies but worth the money for peace of mind
This book was definitely worth the $31+ i paid for it. It reads a bit like having a conversation with an informed friend.True, there are typos (including the wrong phone number for SSS financial aid services; the correct # is 800-344-8328), the font is huge, the celebrity quotes are a turnoff and there wasn't much that a common sense parent wouldn't already know.BUT, it was worth it because: (1) it helped me feel I was on the right track in my approach to researching/applying to schools; and,(2) it got my wheels spinning and inspired me to jot down ideas (what to say in the application essay, who to ask for a recommendation, etc).
