While looking through pregnancy books, I got tired of reading about how you got a second line, got sick, got fat, and squeezed out your "bundle of joy." What about the reality of the situation and how exactly that "bundle of joy" finds its way out of me and into this world?I could not be happier with my purchase of this book. It starts with a few chapters on the typical progression of mother and baby during pregnancy. It includes exercise and diet tips (with pictures) for pregnant women. There is a chapter on complications during pregnancy as well as one on how to plan for a birth. Birth plans are discussed in good detail, as well as interview questions for your OB/Midwife/Doula. In fact, there are different lists for each of those. Although doulas are discussed, this book does not assume you will have either a medicated or a natural birth. Amazing book - My go-to resource
For my first pregnancy, I read The Mayo Clinic Pregnancy Book, What to Expect, The Husband-Coached Childbirth, and this Penny Simkin book, Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn. This book had the best balance of stats based on evidenced based medicine but also real life anecdotal vignettes from mothers. Throughout the book, there are quotes from mothers sharing their expectations and experiences - these voices put into perspective that there is no one right way, just a few different options that might work for me.For full disclosure, I approached this first pregnancy considering a natural childbirth but open to using drugs if needed. Since I come from a family of physicians I was skeptical of going too far off the holistic deep-end. I wanted to stay within a comfort zone that balanced following my body and practicing the best evidence-based medicine. Kudos and full disclosure
Do you enjoy good food? Do you like to "hit the road?" Or do you find yourself traveling for business, errands or other necessity on the interstates and turnpikes of Florida? Maybe you just like a good read? We think you'll find Meals Worth Stopping for in Florida worth picking up and purchasing. We can surely recommend the restaurants we've tried from Floyd's in the north to Cap's, Calypso, Greek Island and others in the south, and the narrative is clever and entertaining even if you never have a chance to stop in any of the restaurants. We only worry that all the intense culinary consumption required of the gourmettes to put this together will deter them from extending their research further north on I95 or west on I10. We're crossing our fingers and engaged in preliminary research. Although we are secure about our objectivity we have to reveal that Nancy Barber, a gourmette and co-author, is one of our nieces. Four-decade Floridian has discovered some wonderful new spots!
For the price of one nice lunch, you can buy a book that will help you find WONDERFUL places to eat. I have lived in Florida for better than four decades, and in most of the major metro areas (South FL, Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Jacksonville) and still occasionally travel around the state. I knew (and could vouch for) many of the places in this book, but have been DELIGHTED and so impressed with others that I didn't know, and likely would never have discovered. I was particularly impressed with H&M Hot Dogs in DeFuniak Springs and the Golden Lion Cafe in Flagler Beach. Next on my list to try: the Dancing Avocado Kitchen in Daytona. I can't wait.

A great book you can build a vacation around
These authors put a lot of great work in this book. The restaurants we have tried are outstanding from Michelbob's Ribs in Naples, Thai Spice in Ft. Lauderdale, Jaxson's in Dania to Garcia's in Miami. My goal is to eat in as many of these excellent locally-owned joints as I can.
