Audrey has the most disarming and winning charm ever
The text is very original and inspiring because for the first time it describes Audrey as more than a legendary film star and a physical beauty, and focuses on her personality and her own life's philosophy that any human being can achieve. One should remember that what made her an enduring star and a legend (#3 in AFI's film legends) was her winning personality and wit. Audrey stands for the premise that what counts is the inner beauty regardless of the physical make-up that one is born with. To this effect, there are a lot of pretty faces that do not even show in the charm department. What really counts is the enduring charm that anybody can develop as a good spirited human being. In the charm department, one's effort to attain sophistication in earnest can make up for whatever the physical appearance. The single picture that I would like to remark is on page 12: when Audrey's gorgeous energy and infectious smile are captured with a huge jump in the air.I also...

A wonderful book to be taken lightly
Some of the reviewers in this category certainly seem to have missed the title of this book: Audrey STYLE. This is the reason I bought it- to learn more about Audrey Hepburn's beautiful sense of style. Imagine my surprise at finding that it did not only discuss her fashion sense, but her wonderful personality as well! I was hoping this wouldn't be a run-of-the-mill biography, and it wasn't. Obviously if you want to read a heavy, thorough biography, this is NOT the book for you. However, if you want to read a light-hearted, stylish, and inspiring tribute to one of the greatest actresses and style icons of our time, then I highly recommend you read this book.

Product Description

Everyone, it seems, is a fan of Audrey's. She was Gigi, a princess, Holly Golightly, a nun, Maid Marian, even an angel. And we believed her in every role. But Audrey Hepburn was also one of the most admired and emulated women of the twentieth century, who encouraged women to discover and highlight their own strength. By example, she not only changed the way women dress--she forever altered the way they viewed themselves.

But Audrey Hepburn's beauty was more than skin deep. "You know the Audrey you saw onscreen? Audrey was like that in real life, only a million times better," says designer Jeffrey Banks. For the first time, this style biography reveals the details--fashion and otherwise--that contributed so greatly to Audrey's appeal. Drawing on original interviews with Hubert de Givenchy, Gregory Peck, Nancy Reagan, Doris Brynner, and Audrey Wilder, as well as reminiscences of professional friends like Steven Spielberg, Ralph Lauren, noted Hollywood photographer Bob Willoughby, Steven Meisel, and Kevyn Aucoin, Audrey Style brings the Audrey her family and friends loved to life.

With more than ninety color and black-and-white photographs, many of which have never before been published, and original designer sketches from Edith Head, Hubert de Givenchy, Vera Wang, Manolo Blahnik, Alexander McQueen, and others, Audrey Style gives measure to the grace, humor, intelligence, generosity, and inimitable fashion sense that was Audrey Hepburn.

In 1953, When Audrey Hepburn burst onto the screen in Roman Holiday, she forever changed the international ideal of elegance, grace, and beauty. Suddenly, glamour and even sexiness seemed attainable for women everywhere; Audrey was uncommonly beautiful, but she was real--hers was a look anyone could aim for, but few could pull off as effortlessly or effectively. By mixing a few classic elements of "Audrey style"--the little black dress, ballet flats with slim capri pants, bold hats and sunglasses--suburban housewives became more Hollywood than Hoboken in an instant.

Here author Pamela Clarke Keogh introduces us to the woman behind the clothes, using words from friends, fellow actors, and designers who dressed her to paint a picture of a truly remarkable woman. A humanitarian, artist, friend, and above all, survivor, Audrey inspired women and men alike to approach life with spirit, grace, and simplicity. The nearly 100 color and black-and-white photographs, paired with original sketches from such fashion luminaries as Givenchy, Manolo Blahnik, and Vera Wang, show that Audrey was much more than a beautiful, well-dressed personality; her courage and individuality come shining through in every page. --Leah Ball Top to learn more

Refreshing
This book is timely and oh so needed right now. Young women are struggling with mixed messages and signals from the media and society. Many women resent being lumped into the Hilton category, but see little in the news that applaud behavior that is not slutty, stupid and raw. There are many smart women doing amazing things in business, medicine, humanitarian work etc. But the headlines are full of brainless, dingy sex starved bimbos. I applaud the author for keeping it classy and for writing a cute, hip manual on maintaining self respect and pursuing success without compromising values. This book is an enjoyable read filled with humor and interesting quotes from successful young icons. Keep this book in mind when purchasing high school graduation gifts or to tuck into your daughter's duffle bag when she is packing for college.

In a society driven by celebutante news and myspace profiles, women of class, style and charm are hard to come by. So is it possible to maintain old fashioned virtues in a modern world without looking like a starchy Amish grandma? Christy shows women how in this guide to glamorous style, professional success and true love...the classy way.

Full of fun assignments, notable names and real-life examples, Christy offers a new look at seemingly "old fashioned" advice. Timeless advice in a contemporary package
For a heart-to-heart of a different kind, Jordan Christy's How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World: The Art of Living with Style, Class and Grace (Hachette) is the kind of advice book most every generation needs. Unfortunately, the people who most need Jordan Christy's advice - the skanky girls who use Paris/Britney/Kardashians as role models - would probably never pick up this breezy book. But for young women trying to figure out how to navigate a world where immodesty and agressive sexual behavior rules, Christy's smart, sweet book of advice is like pep talk from someone who is channeling a combo of Miss Manners, your wise grandmother, and yes, Audrey Hepburn. With chapters discussing topics like language, friendships, clothing and dating, you'd think this book might read like a giant, pruny scold from an never-married aunt born during Queen Victoria's reign. But Christy writes with the bubbly confidence of someone who is navigating these waters NOW, and has made the choice...

The Ultimate Guide to Loveliness, Both Inside and Out.
A lot of people misuse the term "hero." Lots of people think it's an athlete, an actor, or a singer. I regard Audrey Hepburn as my hero and a great role model. She was a rare and unusually timeless beauty with her gamine looks and a gorgeous accent, often mistaken as British, that also belied part of her time in Nazi occupied Holland. With the grace of a dancer and a princess to add to her intoxicating manner of speech, she had consistently excellent taste in clothes, impeccable hairstyles, and an approach to living that more people in this world would do well to adhere to.Hepburn isn't a hero because of her time on screen; that's just an admirable sort of glamorous display. She fought the resistance as a brave young girl with her mother during WWII, helping the allies escape to freedom. Later in her life, when her career as an actress had more or less played itself out, she took her fame and used it to help give aid to children of third world countries who were...

The perfect book to give
This is the perfect book to give for birthdays, hostess gifts, Christmas, Mother's day, graduation, or any special event in a woman's life. I sent it home with 15 ladies who attended a baby shower, and it has inspired several Audrey "film-festivals." Her thoughts on how to carry oneself with style, dignity and grace will translate to any generation. "How to be Lovely" should be on every woman's night stand.

Lovely Inside and Out
When I received this book as a birthday gift, I was delighted because I love the old Audrey Hepburn movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's. But I was most impressed with was the quality of Hepburn's words. She was one smart, funny and kind person. Now, I am buying copies for all of the teenagers I know as holiday gifts so that they can also be inspired by her. Not only was Hepburn gorgeous on the outside (the many pictures are fabulous), but also on the inside. A real life role model for any age. Highly recommended.

"Living is like tearing through a museum. Not until later do you really start absorbing what you saw, thinking about it, looking it up in a book and remembering- because you can’t take it all in at once." —Audrey Hepburn

On many occasions, she was approached to pen her autobiography, the definitive book of Audrey Hepburn, yet she never agreed. A beloved icon who found success as an actress, a mother and an humanitarian, Audrey Hepburn perfected the art of gracious living.

More philosophy than biography, How to Be Lovely revisits the many interviews Audrey gave over the years, allowing us to hear her voice directly on universal topics of concern to women the world over: careers, love lives, motherhood and relationships. Enhanced by rarely seen photographs, behind-the-scenes stories, and insights from the friends who knew her well, How to Be Lovely uncovers the real Audrey, in her own words.

While she would have been the last to say so, Audrey Hepburn was an expert in the art of being a woman. How to Be Lovely imparts whatever wisdom and insight she found along the way to the millions who grew up, or will grow up, wanting to be just like her.

Published to coincide with Audrey Hepburn’s would-be seventy-fifth birthday, How to Be Lovely offers a rare glimpse into the woman behind the mystique and the definitive guide to living genuinely with glamour and grace.

Only for the style-clueless
The cover and title hint that we'll learn things about style in this book, such as how iconic women like Audrey Hepburn (pictured on the cover) wore what suited them best. The photos are sparse, however, much of the copy is pointless for American readers (do you really want an evaluation of what the Queen of England wears?), and the rest of it consists mainly of things you probably know already--or have considered but found your own, more flattering, solutions. Do we really need another book advising everyone to wear black, for example? There are several more appealing neutrals. Unless you're starting completely from scratch, you'll be disappointed.

Nothing much new here
If you're already a "classicist" you'll just roll your eyes and skim through this. Be forewarned-- there is a LOT of blank space and large type in this book. The 160 page description is deceiving. The book measures only 5 3/4 x 6 inches and I read it in 1/2 hour. It's a magazine article in book form.I couldn't quite get the author's curious obsession with CAFTANS; ghastly garments--and guaranteed to make ANYONE look fat! Shouldn't one raise at least one perfectly groomed eyebrow at any book that has Audrey Hepburn on the cover yet extols the virtues of CAFTANS? Hmmmmmm. The author also has a thing for white high heeled pumps, which most women would do well to avoid; except perhaps on their wedding day.

Don't take it so seriously
This is intended as a jokey gift book, not a style manual, so if you're looking for the latter this isn't it. It is a very light read, agreed, and yes, it's from a British publisher and a British perspective. But if you want a small, glossy present for a wannabe friend, or just want something stylish to keep in your bathroom, this isn't a bad choice.

The Centennial Collection of Breakfast at Tiffany's" is the definitive version to own on DVD!
Excellent!A word that can describe the Centennial Collection release of the 1961 film "Breakfast at Tiffany's", the classic romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard.Having reviewed previous versions of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" before on DVD, I'm sure many Audrey Hepburn fans are probably wondering how else can Paramount improve from the 2006 45th Anniversary Edition on DVD? Well, I can tell you right now... plenty! Please read on.A film that stars quite a bit of talent, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" remains not just one of the most memorable romantic films of all time but a film that exemplifies the beauty of Audrey Hepburn, the chic style of the times and more (which I will discuss more in the special features portion of my review).VIDEO & AUDIO:The film is presented in widescreen format, enhanced for 16:9 TV's. "I'm just CRAZY about Tiffany's!"
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" is flawless blend of a crowd-pleasing star-vehicle for the effortlessly charming Audrey Hepburn and a bittersweet, painfully beautiful look at love, life, and happiness. Director Blake Edwards, the man behind "The Pink Panther" series, "The Party", "Operation Petticoat", "Victor/Victoria", etc., has crafted a truly timeless film based on the novella by Truman Capote. Though numerous elements of Capote's story were altered, the film still has a strong core and message that urges audiences to examine their own lives, loves, and happiness.Everything about this film is classic. You have the timeless Hepburn and her defining performance as Holly Golightly, a sophisticated, sassy call-girl with a secret past who is ultimately one of the most vulnerable characters Hepburn ever played. Then there's George Peppard, a vastly under-appreciated actor who manages to hold his own next to Hepburn while playing a struggling writer living off an older married...

OLD-FASHIONED ROMANTIC CRY MOVIE...
I love this film despite two major flaws. 1.) they toned down the fact that Holly Golightly is a call girl (probably to maintain Audrey Hepburn's sweet image) and 2.) the awful inclusion of Mickey Rooney as an Asian. Both blunders make me mad. However, they didn't hide the fact that George Peppard's character was a kept man by the icy Patricia Neal. Nonetheless, the film succeeds as one of the most romantic stories ever filmed. Hepburn is utterly charming and her performance would have had a more interesting shade had Holly's true means of support not been practically erased. But when we learn she's run away from a very sad family situation---we see a glimpse of the true Holly. It's also an interesting note that two people living off of others for different reasons should find each other and fall ROMANTICALLY in love. The theme "Moon River" pulls every drop of poignancy from the tear ducts as does the scene with the kitten in the rain. I'm as jaded as they come and that scene gets me...

Winner of two Oscars®, here's the romantic comedy that sparkles like diamonds! From the opening strains of Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer's haunting, Oscar®-winning song "Moon River," you'll once again be under the alluring spell of that madcap, carefree New York playgirl known as Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) in this 24-carat romantic comedy based on Truman Capote's best-selling novella. George Peppard is the struggling and "sponsored" young writer who finds himself swept into Holly's dizzying, delightfully unstructured lifestyle as she determinedly scours Manhattan for a suitable millionaire to marry. The sparkling special features on this Anniversary Edition DVD only add to the luster of director Blake Edwards' timeless film classic. Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen, Martin Balsam and Mickey Rooney co-star; Mancini won an additional Academy Award® for his enthralling musical score. Top to learn more

No film better utilizes Audrey Hepburn's flighty charm and svelte beauty than this romantic adaptation of Truman Capote's novella. Hepburn's urban sophisticate Holly Golightly, an enchanting neurotic living off the gifts of gentlemen, is a bewitching figure in designer dresses and costume jewelry. George Peppard is her upstairs neighbor, a struggling writer and "kept" man financed by a steely older woman (Patricia Neal). His growing friendship with the lonely Holly soon turns to love and threatens the delicate balance of both of their compromised lives. Taking liberties with Capote's bittersweet story, director Blake Edwards and screenwriter George Axelrod turn New York into a city of lovers and create a poignant portrait of Holly, a frustrated romantic with a secret past and a hidden vulnerability. Composer Henry Mancini earned Oscars for the hit song "Moon River" and his tastefully romantic score. The only sour note in the whole film is Mickey Rooney's demeaning performance as the apartment's Japanese manager, an offensively overdone stereotype even in 1961. The rest of the film has weathered the decades well. Edwards's elegant yet light touch, Axelrod's generous screenplay, and Hepburn's mix of knowing experience and naiveté combine to create one of the great screen romances and a refined slice of high society bohemian chic. --Sean Axmaker Top to learn more
