PACK YUCK!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!
I did not grow up with this game...the PAC-MAN for the 2600(VCS). Everyone apologizes for this game. If you remember this game and want to try it again...get it. Otherwise don't waste your money if you are looking for graphics from the arcade...in fact...don't look for anything that was in the arcade. The ATARI VCS (2600) was released in 1977 but PAC-MAN did not come out until 1982. Also they used a cheaper CPU for the Atari which led to poor graphics in the game. The pellets are now rectangles and the maze looks more like COMBAT filled with DOG DOO. The "FRUIT" is now a vitamin and is a hollow box and they didn't even try to name any of ghosts since they all look the same. Also the ghosts flicker a lot. The 2600 didn't allow a lot of moving opponents at one time so to fix this they turn on one ghost while tuning off another one causing them to flicker. Don't say I didn't warn you!!! IF you want a PAC game but you don't want a huge arcade. Get MS. PAC-MAN on the ATARI 7800...

Product Description

We know that millions of people all over the world just love the PAC-MAN arcade game. PAC-MAN has won the hearts of men, women, and children everywhere. We also know that PAC-MAN has traditionally been an arcade game. Well, we at ATARI know all about arcade games. After all, we make some of the greatest arcade games in the world, and we know how to bring the same dynamite game play into your home. Our PAC-MAN has all of the excitement and challenge of the standard arcade game, and you get to play in the comfort and convenience of your own home. This is especially advantageous if you still plan to make an occasional appearance at the arcade to show off your great playing skills. (Little do they know that you've been practicing at home all along.) Just in case you're new to PAC-MAN, don't worry. It's easy to learn. You'll be a pro in no time at all. So, relax, get comfortable and enjoy it in the privacy of your own home. We suggest that you read this instruction booklet thoroughly before beginning game play. We know that you won't want to miss any important details about game play. You might even find it entertaining. The object of the game is to keep PAC-MAN happy and healthy in his home of Mazeland. PAC-MAN starts the game with four lives(turns). The longer he survives, the more points you score. You score a point for every video wafer that PAC-MAN eats. You also score points when PAC-MAN eats power pills, vitamins, and ghosts. Everytime PAC-MAN eats all of the video wafers on the maze, he earns an extra life and a new maze full of video wafers. Different layout, different sounds, who cares?
Pac-Man and ET were the two games for the Atari to cause the "end" of videogames. But I don't understand what's wrong with the game. So what if the maze is different? So what if the graphics are different? So what if the sounds are different? At least the gameplay is the same! You guide Pac-Man around, munching off all the dots in the maze. The sounds are beeps and bops. Like how every Atari game has them. There's no music.I mean, seriously. People are making a big deal out of nothing. This game is good the way it is.

Asteroids is necessary if you want to be a true Atari collector
And even if your not a collector, Asteroids is a great game. When I got it for the Atari 2600 a few weeks ago, I fell in love with it. It had plenty of difficulties, and different power ups/game modes that will satisfy your Asteroid-destroying fix.For those who say this game is easy, is correct... if you don't change the game mode. Game mode 1 is easy, but other game modes will test your skills, especially the ones with UFO's and Satellites. There's also modes that change your power up, Power ups include a "Shield" which makes you immune to incoming Asteroids for 2 seconds. Another is "Hyperspace" where you appear in another location randomly on the map, and my favorite, the mode with no power ups.As for the graphics, its not vector based, but its close enough. Also, the Asteroids are colored for some reason, but I don't actually mind this, because they remind me of colored marshmallows, and I love me some Marshmallows.Honestly, when I play...

Very awesome game.
This is a very cool, highly addictive, classic Atari game. It is a fun today as it was when it was released. A must have for any Atari 2600 fan.

Asteroids.
This is a popular game on the atari. It is one of my favorites too. The purpose is to shoot all of the asteroids and alieen space ships that come and try not to get hit buy bullets or asteroids. The music and sound is catchy and fun to listen too. The graphics r not that good but is is the atari. It is hard to control the ship sometimes but the joystick makes it easy sometimes. It is really fun on multiplayer but u have to take turns like most atari games. This is a fun old popular game.

The Man With the Box-Hat...
Wow, you can pick up this classic for less than a candy bar these days. This Atari 2600 adaptation of the movie really stretched the system as you had quite a few boards/screens (oooh), different pieces of music, including the famous theme plus the flute of the snake charmer that protected you from the squiggly line, and it took longer than most games of its day to complete. It even required the operation of both joysticks--one to move Indy, who is defined by his box-hat, and the other to control his inventory of items like moneybags, a flute, a gun, the whip, etc. Because of this requirement, it was somewhat of a two-player adventure game. It's probably also one of the first games that provoked serious swearing at the TV screen back in the day. Just after you completed all of the steps that follow the film (buy this, avoid that guy, avoid that squiggly line, whip this, etc, etc) you could buy it at any moment from the raving lunatic in the market, or the falling boxes...

Excellent Game Play
I loved this game when I was 10 and I can still enjoy it today. The graphics are pretty good and the gameplay is excellent. It's not for everybody though. It is also recommended that you find a solution guide to help out with the information that is not in the instruction manual. The Well of Souls and Map Room is straight out of the movie. Once you figure out how to beat the game, the action is fun and can be enjoyed over and over again.

Worse than E. T. and Pac-Man combined!
E. T. and Pac-Man (for Atari 2600) wre more fun than this game. Yeah, they killed the Atari corporation because they were seen by consumers as the worst video games in history, and who can blame anyone for such a review, but hey at least you didn't have to switch back and forth between two controllers. Whoever decided that they were going to make an atari game that required more user interaction than was possible with 1 controller is an idiot. Period. Wonder why no other game, especially modern games, use more than one controller for a single person at a time? Enough said, save your penny and flush it down the toilet...even if you flood you house that penny was better spent!

It's a nice concept!!!
The best thing to come from Frogger is the Sienfield episode of George playing a real life Frogger with the Arcade machine (He was trying to cross a busy street with it). But this is a great port of the original Arcade. I was surprised to find out that it was actually made by SEGA. This is a game to have with a Atari VCS(Video Computer System)/2600. I don't give it five stars, because it is unbeatable (as far as I know). But it's just as classic as PAC-MAN. I highly recommend this game. It also works on the Atari 7800.-Thanks

Still Hopping along !
Frogger for the atari 2600 is a gem of a port of an arcade classic. ok so it dosent have all the bells and whistles like video games do now..but when this port came out originally..all that mattered is the gameplay...and even in 2011 its still one excellent port.....the 2600 version ranks up there with the sega genesis version for the fun factor..sure the genesis version looked better...but the 2600 version is classic all the way...i still remember the commercials for this one and wanting this game for christmas which i did get along with q bert..remember that seinfeld episode where george bought the frogger arcade game? classic! and youll see what frogger is all about when you plug a copy into your atari...hop to it! its not that hard to find and its worth checking out.fun fact many people didnt realize that frogger was actually produced by sega (read the label its stated there)

Love this game!
In this classic game an elf village is attacked by a centipede, hence the name of the game, and one of the elves is heroically tasked with the challenge of defeating it, by shooting up from the bottom of the screen (Space Invaders style) through or around the toadstools in order to hit it. Watch out if you do though, the centipede will break into two parts and the new part will move independently from the original one. If you hit 10,000 points you get an extra life. The levels advance by leaving everything on the screen exactly the same, changing the color, and sending in a new centipede. In this version, at least, the elf looks exactly like a cube, but hey, it's Atari so what do you expect. I love this game and have spent hours playing it.

Vintage game for the Atari 2600 video game console. Top to learn more

A classic ported to a classic system
Nintendo was about to go bankrupt, but then Miyamoto was tasked to create an arcade game. That arcade game is Donkey Kong. It became as big as Pac-Man (Okay, maybe not as big) and lived up to even today. The Atari 2600 port was a good game. There was one major flaw though: 2 levels are missing. So you only get to play through 2 levels. However, the game is still great to play.

Worth playing, worth owning
In the early 1980s, it seemed every company was making it big in the arcade business. Nintendo wanted to do the same thing, and how did they do it? They released on the market a game known as Donkey Kong.Immediately Donkey Kong was a smash hit. It was the first popular platform game, meaning a game with jumping and climbing, and it included plenty of lovable and/or interesting characters.Of course fans of video games wanted to be able to play Donkey Kong at home, and since the Atari 2600 was the most popular home video game system, it was a natural that Donkey Kong would eventually find it's way to the system.Coleco was the company who gained the rights to release home game versions of Donkey Kong, and they wasted no time putting out a version of the game for the Atari 2600.Unfortunately, some gaming lovers were less than impressed. The graphics for the Atari version weren't nearly as good as those of the arcade game, and there were only...

Ah, the 80's
I remember this game fondly. We were having a garage sale and I was making some money and someone said a store had Donkey Kong for Atari. I was like...what?!?!? For Atari?? Sure enough, they had it. But I was $5.00 short in getting it. So, I went down to a neighbor and asked if I could mow his lawn...he said he would give me $5.00 and I did it and had my parents take me to the store and I got my copy of the game. I however did such a rush job on his lawn, that I noticed it, went back and did it again for free. Early life lesson...but on to the game!I put it in my console and I was like "eeeeee"...what is this? Without even starting the game, I was horrified at the sight of the Kong and Mario. When I started playing it, I was equally horrified. It just didn't look or feel like the arcade game. Both the graphics and game play seemed rushed. But, to be fair, the more I played, the more I liked. Though it didn't seem fair that we didn't even see Donkey Kong fall on his head...

BUY Donkey Kong (Atari 2600)

Buy Atari 2600 Games

I still played console games, but I generally played multiplayer games with friends, rather than playing games by myself. It took a few more years for me to get my first video game console - a used Atari 2600 with a small pile of games. ) Rather than playing a wide variety of games, I started to play a more select range of in-depth games for longer periods of time, including computer games. As a result, the early-to-mid-1990s were my peak video-gaming era, and that period featured some of my favorite video games ever. ) The Atari 2600 was eventually followed by the NES, the Super NES a few years later, and the Sega Genesis a few years after that.

While some may say that you can buy an Atari 2600 built into a joystick , that’s not really fair, since those systems only play a limited number of games, and cannot accept an actual 2600 cartridge. He originally tried to build it into an Atari 2600 controller, but Dablio ultimately managed to fit the system into the plastic tube from a package of M&Ms, so the console is appropriately named the “Atari 2600MM. If you want to play games on a retro system, you should probably start off with an NES – many of those games still have replay value today.
