BOSCH gets it right the second time around...
Just purchased the PS21-2A at JLC live last weekend and so far, this sub-compact drill has handled everything I've asked it to do without protest. I have wanted a pocket driver since they came out but in researching and using comparable products from Milwaukee, Makita, Ridgid, and Bosch I found that while small size was an asset, the power needed wasn't there. Bosch has taken care of this problem with the PS21. Upping the torque from 100"/lbs to 265"/lbs transforms the drill into something that you'll use more than half the time rather than just when it's size makes it necessary. Also, the greater range in RPM makes the PS21 much more capable in all types of drilling. If you're a contractor this will never be your primary, but still the PS21 is a solid offering into the sub-compact drill/driver marketplace if not the clear frontrunner. Not to be forgotten, other improvements make the PS21 even more useful, such as an optically enhanced LED, and shorter length.

Impressed
I was looking for a power screwdriver with a removeable battery because I was tired of having a tool go dead in the middle of something, or even just wondering if that would happen. Despite it not actually being a power screwdriver, I stumbled across this little beast in my search, and notice it has among the shortest head length including many 3.6, 4v, and 7.2v models. It's wieght was a bit more than some of the 3.6 volt drivers at 1.8 lbs compared to 1.5 lbs average, but what you get for those extra few ounces is amazing: 265 in-lbs of torque - granted that's not going to be needed for putting furniture together, but I was able to drill a hole through a 2x4 with a one inch spade bit no problems as well as effortlessly drive 2 1/2 in drywall screws into studs, and who doesn't want that kind of power on a lightweight 5 1/2 inch head length tool? Small, effective, and efficient driver.

As a driver, this Bosch is very efficient and makes driving screws, or attaching nuts a breeze.At 265 pounds of torque there isn't much the average DIY'er can't tackle. Great tool (one minor flaw)
I bought this as a gift for my Dad for Christmas. I already own (and love) its main competitor, Milwaukee's 12v driver so I decided to do a quick side-by-side comparison. In terms of look, size, and performance, the two tools are about as equal as can be. The Milwaukee did seem to drive the 3" screws slightly faster but it was a very small difference. Overall, the two were basically equal in everything except one factor - the mechanism for changing bits. On the Bosch, you pull the chuck straight out to release the bit, but you need to continue holding it out to insert the new bit (basically need two hands). On the Milwaukee, you pull out the chuck and it locks into the open position, then you insert the new bit and it locks into place (only need one hand to do a bit change). For this reason alone, I would rate the Milwaukee just ahead of the Bosch. In any case, I would be thrilled with either.

FANTASTIC tool, but no bits. Here's the SOLUTION:...
As everyone else has noted, this is a really wonderful tool: light, powerful, and well balanced. This single tool now replaces BOTH my heavyweight DeWalt for big jobs, AND a nimble little Skil 2336-02 iXO 3.6-Volt for tight spaces. [The latter duo have gone to a vacation home.]That said, the Bosch comes with an annoyingly cheesy cloth case, with an equally annoying Velcro strap inside to secure the driver. But most annoying of all is that it comes with essentially NO BITS.I naturally looked for a companion set of Bosch bits and rapidly discovered from the valuable Amazon reviews [for which this review is karmic payback] that the quick-change chuck in the "Bosch CC2130 Clic-Change 27-Piece Drilling and Driving Set" DOES NOT FIT the PS20 series!SOLUTION: For one third the price of the Bosch set, I eventually found the...

This ain't no toy!!!
Just bought the 12v drill/driver made by Bosch. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't buy it from Amazon because I found it cheaper on E... Only reason is I'm such a tightwad I make every penny squeek when I'm buying tools. That's why I don't buy cheap tools and this certainly ain't cheap.I've been using it since I got it and it's a dream tool. I drill with #55 size bits and all my other drills were so heavy I'd break a bit every 7th or 8th hole. Still on the same bit since I switched to the PS20-2A.The batteries, (you get 2 with the PS20-2A), charge in about 30 minutes and seem to last forever. I tried wearing one down in the first 3 hours of intermittent drilling and couldn't do it.The only thing I'd comment negatively about is that stupid little super-brite LED they put on the drill. I guess it's supposed to illuminate the drill tip at the point of contact but it only lights up the area below the actual area you need lighted. I sent a note to...

Making 18v obsolete around the house
I recently bought into the Bosch Pocket Series tools with a PS21. I was beyond impressed at the power packed into that size and enjoyed using the tool - I went around looking for excuses to pull it out. The power was more than adequate for any handyman/DIY job (short of building a deck. It would do it, but I'd still use an impact driver, and/or corded or 18v+ for something like that) But many such tasks require some drilling. I have some drill bits with the 1/4 in hex shank that the PS21 accepts, but I find there is a bit of a wobble, the bits just aren't held as wells as a chuck that tightens down. So I picked up the PS31 to take over when the job requires precision drilling. It's basically the same specs as the PS21 - complete with 265 in/lbs of torque, 2 speeds, LED light and an adjustable clutch - but has the 3/8 in keyless chuck for more drilling versatility. It's a little bit longer and only slightly heavier, but will accept a much greater range of bits. One of the other...

Vast Improvement, Very Happy With It
This compact drill is very well made and a big improvement in its class. The increase in power (which is noticeable when you fire it up), with the compact size is very very nice! (its about the size of the original Bosch PS20-2A). I dont regret the purchase at all. Its very well balanced, the new batteries are more powerful (even noticeably so for my original PS20, which is a nice plus; too bad they dont have an XC battery pack similar to milwaukee for the extra runtime). Very good drill, but mine had a problem
Bought this drill from that big box store. Compared with Milwaukee M12 drill driver, this Bosch is more compact, has more torque in the spec, looks and feels better. Everything looks built with high quality. The drill has very good power and speed. The LED light is 50% blocked by the chuck, but it is still better than nothing. Battery changes within 30 minutes. It comes with a soft case, it will be great if it is LBOXX like the european ones.However, after used it for a little more then 2 months, the chuck suddenly started wobble, at the same time it becomes difficult to switch from 1st to 2nd gear, the gear box generates noise. The noise can be gone if try to switch the gear again, but the wobbling is still there. It is good that the store's return policy allows to return in 90 days, I returned it.To me, it is still has the best size, power, great looking 12V Max drill available. But too bad mine stopped working.

Bosch tops Milwaukee for now
I have had a Milwaukee M12 Impactor and driver for a couple years now. At the time I bought it I had tried out the original Bosch and I thought the Milwaukee to be better.Well, time goes on, and this new Bosch is much improved and much better than my Milwaukee. I picked up the combo pack, because I'm setting up a new workspace and needed a new pair. So before I took these over to work, I decided to do my own direct comparo - bottom line; both the new PS41-2 and the PS21-2 significantly outperform my old Milwaukee units.I drove 3 inch wood screws into a piece of 2x6 treated lumber - pretty typical duty for one of these. Both the Bosch and Milwaukee Impactors drove the screws with no trouble - the Bosch put the screw in about 3x as fast. I then drove the screws into a big knot - Bosch - no sweat, Milwaukee - did it, but barely. I then performed the same test with the new PS21 and the Milwaukee driver - This is where I saw the most difference between them -...

bought this driver during a bosch sales event at a local store with one extra battery.I custom build houses for living and could not be happier with this 12v driver for the following reasons:1, it has superior power for its size. my crew and myself used it to drive deck screws, floor screws, dry wall screws at tight spots, all day long. very handy all around driver.2, compare with bigger conventional drill/driver, it is really easy on the wrist.3, for its size, you can put it in the pouch and working on awkward spots like top of the ladder.4, battery charge is not bad at all, again, for its size.5, i dropped it quite a few times from 4 to 5 feet hight, still works no problem.6, the LED light is a great feature.if you are looking for a compact driver with solid quality, i highly recommend it. it does not however replace the 18v/36v hammer drill/driver for heavy duty drill/driving, like drive screws into masonary.hope that...

Best in Class, but there are limitations
I initially purchased the Milwaukee M12-series model 2450-22 1/4" impact driver. It advertises 850 in-lb torque. This Bosch claims 930 in-lb torque. In lb-ft, that's 71 for the Milwaukee and 78 for the Bosch. This all started with the Milwaukee's inability to loosen a fastener anywhere near its rated torque...I performed my test on two exhaust manifold bolts using the same torque wrench and same 1/4" hex to 3/8" square adapter and a 12mm socket. Each tool had a full battery and each was tested on both 12mm bolts. I tightened the bolts in 5 ft-lb increments until i couldn't break them free anymore. The Bosch was able to break free bolts tightened as much as 45-50 ft-lb. The Makita would break bolts free at 35 ft-lb max. This gives the Bosch about 60% of rated torque and the Makita 50% of its claimed torque.So, based on the above, neither tool delivered its rated torque in my test. Great set for the price. Versatile and fit a ton of applications
Well let me first start my review out by saying I am the type that usually over-researching a product until I end up not ever buying because I can't just pull the trigger. Now that is out of the way, I would have to say I went to several hardware stores and tried about 8 different brand impact drivers before finally choosing the Bosch set. I tried the craftsman, milwaukee, and several big brands and never really liked the grip from there offerings. I am a typical do-it-yourselfer and had a recent project of building out an attic space area to be converted to my office space. I wanted to finally go cordless and stop the dragging of cables through my garage up a later, over another attic area to finally get in the area with no local electric. So needless to say, cordless was the main reason to look at this product.I just would would like to comment on the areas why I choose this drill.1. Convenient
First, I have an 18v Hitachi impact driver, so I haven't had much chance to use the Bosch. I mostly got this package for the pocket driver which is much lighter and easier to handle than a larger cordless drill. This product alone makes the package worth the price. The driver is well balanced and almost as easy to handle as a regular screwdriver. I selected it over the Hitachi cordless screwdriver because of the variable speed trigger. I'm glad I did, this is an essential feature. So far I've used it for a week and replaced all of the switches and outlets in our kitchen to upgrade to GFCI. Also, we hung several pictures and replaced seals around the garage door. We haven't had to recharge it yet. My only grip is there is no way to turn off the light. While I love my Hitachi 18v set this set is much more apropos for indoor tasks. Now I have both indoor and outdoor toys.

Very good, buy it.
Like the first author, I tend to over-research my purchases as well... None of them are perfect for every project. I bought the refurb variety from CPO outlets (sold here for 127), which comes with a one year warranty.I purchased this to replace my old kobalt brand li-ion screwdriver. Man, has technology improved...As for the actual product. I've been quite happy. The battery life is great, the power is more than needed for around the house projects. But specifically, the reason I bought this over the Milwaukee M12 is size. I want something smaller, easier to use everyday. I'd say you won't be disappointed.
